Any fans/followers here?? I don’t think there is another thread….
We are a pretty soccer forward family with former players, current coaches and just people who love the international interest of soccer. We started our family pool last night. We each have 3 teams, random draw.
While I love to watch I am low on the totem pole of actually knowledge of the players. My countries are:
Norway
Senegal
Cape Verde
We are a soccer family, I mostly watch because the games are on, husband and 3 of our kids played varsity in HS, 2 also played club, 2 club in college. There are going to be shuttles to MetLife from a half mile away, we are close to the stadium. I’m honestly interested in the transportation issues, since that’s what most are talking about here.
We will also be watching. I saw yesterday a list of the watch parties around San Diego and told H where some of them were. I think we will go to one of the watch parties closer to the finals.
We are a soccer family and will be watching. Son and I will be cheering for my home country and since there is a small community of us in my city, some will probably meet up in a pub and watch together.
My son was invited by his friend’s family to join them for a week in Houston including watching two games. Not any really good teams but it will be great nonetheless.
I have lived in a country that hosted a World Cup at the time and I have to say…this experience is so different. None of the general excitement that pervaded at the time, though that’s possibly also to do with the size of the US (as well as some other issues not to be mentioned in this forum). I wonder if it’s different in Mexico, especially as soccer is so big there? We will be watching some of the games for sure.
The Brazil and Morocco teams are staying near where I live and my commute the other day was delayed due to a police escort for the Brazil team going to practice, so that was interesting. We are a soccer family but unless the ticket prices come down, it’s unlikely we will attend.
D2, her BF and her roommate have a couple teams staying in their town. Her roommate adores the Ecuador team (and she is a Spanish teacher and did a summer in Ecuador) and was actually interviewed for a major Ecuadorian news channel. They went to one of the practice or “friendly” games this weekend.
D2’s BF is going to a game in Atlanta and then one in Seattle. He is an ALL.IN fan lol.
We watch a lot of sports in our house, not a ton of soccer, but will be fun to watch some of the games. My son has become a fan and he has been lucky to see some big games in Europe while cheering for Barcelona. Since he’s living in Morocco for work this year, he’ll be traveling to the US to see the Morocco vs. Haiti game. I’m just thankful to get to spend some time with him while he’s here, but I’m sure we’ll be watching some games together.
Huge soccer family here. Will be watching as many games as possible. And going to one in person! (Thanks to my oldest who was able to buy tickets through the lottery). Going in two weeks.
Welp, massive FOOTBALL fan here, I am of Spanish descent and I have played for Barcelona academy youth as a younger kid, I am attending VIP for many games(including semi-finals) due to some Spanish contacts ;wink wink, and I hope Spain wins it all!
My host city will have several watch party venues. One is near my workplace and will feature a 70’ screen to watch the World Cup matches. Another is on the waterfront. I will play tourist and visit both places. First match is Monday at noon.
Well, our Auburn University hosted a friendly with Argentina v Iceland. It was apparently a grand time from all the videos I’ve watched and everyone mesmerized by Messi. I played a little soccer growing up and all my boys played soccer as elementary kids but honestly, I just find it boring. Sorry, I’ve tried, been to a few Atlanta United games but gosh it’s like watching hockey on grass, back and forth, back and forth and no one scoring. At least in hockey, the skating skill is incredible to watch. There were 88,000+ fans in the stadium last night having a good time so I do realize, it’s me.
