To give Argentina some credit where it belongs, their goalkeeper deserves some kudos. To let only one ball through given the constant attacks by the Spanish team, it takes skill.
Lots of memes about the Spanish goalie too! This one made me chuckle :
(But seriously- zero shots on goal?!)
I saw this news today. I could not believe the White House did this. Can’t they just let it go?
So petty omg
Back on topic, apparently fifa “deleted” Paredes’s red card (that he got for the post match brawl). Amazing how easy it is to overturn one when they want, huh?
I saw something about them investigating the Argentina team for bring Argentina and fifa into disrepute, and I just thought, well, fifa manages to bring itself into disrepute without anyone else having to do anything…
I guess Congress didn’t vote to exempt teh WC players/teams.
Is this their punishment for cropping a certain individual out of the picture they posted???
(meant in jest….)
Has no one yet mentioned the one player who did not shake Trump’s hand? (Romero).
No, but I’d like to shake Romero’s hand for his actions!!!

This is a funny tradition and a cute story. Not sure what the players would do with those many tomatoes.
I listened to this podcast AFTER the final game was done and it was so interesting to hear the content, knowing the results.
I like what they said about Spain not being about serving up one special player (as a few teams do) and instead being more about process and repetition.
Even after the Cup has concluded, I still want to hear about it!
For anyone experiencing World Cup withdrawal:
EPL is right around the corner….
I don’t know if this proposal from FIFA to sell the World Cup football to private equity investors should have a separate thread.
However, I am glad that, so far, UEFA, CONCACAF and Asian Football Association have totally rejected the proposal. I am waiting to know what South America and Africa Football Associations will respond.
FIFA and Infantino’s proposal is just pure greed. It does nothing to help football. However, the lastest news is that FIFA blames media for misrepresent the facts. This tactic sounds very familiar. I am so disgusted with Infantino and the people around him who came up with this proposal.
Is anything in this world immune from private equity? ![]()
This FIFA deal is such a wildly outlandish money grab that it reads like a farce. Almost as farcical as a certain Peace Prize. (All this “peace” in the world has been great huh?!)
Infantino’s job is not looking too secure at the moment. Would anyone be sad to see him sacked?
I’d say, “Adios, don’t let the door hit you in the arse on the way out!”
Still waiting to hear from South America, Africa and Oceania Football Confederations. They move much slower.
There are articles about how FIFA members (countries) could vote no confidence and force Infantino out.
However, the fact that he has allied himself to powerful countries like US (FIFA Peace Prize), Qatar (awarded the World Cup), etc., makes football people feel uneasy as he could ask for their help to “convince” other small FIFA countries to back him for another FIFA presidency term.
The brother of the son in law of the Peace Prize winner was one of the financial parties involved in the private equity deal. So Infantino’s standing among the Peace Prize family may have diminished now that he has egg on his face.
(Trying to keep this in the parents forum!
)
I wouldn’t call DJT a FIFA Peace Prize “winner”. He did not win it or compete with anybody to win it. If I have to pick a word for it, it would be a recipient, definitely not a winner.
Did anyone in your family pool win with those random team draws? All the hype made me drag my old gear out for a weekend kickabout, though my feet took a beating until a buddy tossed me an extra pair of Zero Give socks to stop the slipping.
