World Cup 2026

Post of the month!!!

My cat was similarly sitting on me but jumped what looked like 5 feet straight up in the air when I cheered for what could’ve been one of Spain’s goals!

Congratulations and well deserved win - imo Spain outwit and outplayed today.

Sad it’s over what a fun summer :soccer_ball: bandwagon to be on. Even if you’re a casual, bandwagon fan. :down_arrow:

Congrats to Spain. The better team won. So deserving.
Glad the Golden Boot Award went to Mbappe.
And…. England beat France.

Hope America will host another World Cup again before I am too old to care or not even around.

And the Spanish FA edited DJT out when it posted the championship pic on its website.

It’s about the Spanish football team, their effort and accomplishment, not anyone else’s. Even FIFA boss knows to get out of the way.

If only the confetti was orange… :see_no_evil_monkey:

I’m hoping the confetti was coordinated to the winning team’s flag?

So many news articles decrying Argentina’s bad behavior both on the pitch and after the game.

Looks like they might have gotten their supply from America’s Got Talent :stuck_out_tongue:

A literal blow by blow here:

Laid out like that, it was even worse than I’d realized.

The Fox Sports control room either blew it, or they purposely downplayed it.

Shocking poor sportsmanship from Argentina AFTER the final whistle. If people were wondering at any point why so many neutral fans were rooting for ABA (anyone but Argentina), this is why.

They really annoyed me by keeping on cutting to focus on Messi, rather than the Spanish players, after the whistle. Once I can understand given the hype around him, but they kept doing it. (Or maybe they were waiting for him to actually look upset…he just kind of looked confused and perplexed.)

And during the trophy presentation to the winner/Spainish team, Argentina players turned their back on Spain.

During a presentation of the Player of the Tournament (Golden Ball) Award, Argentina players kept shouting Messi’s name.

If I were an Argentinian fan, I would be so embarrassed. Where is their sportsmanship?

There was also rioting in the streets in Buenos Aries after they lost.

Contrast that behavior to the 90,000 people who showed up to celebrate the Norwegian team and give them a hero’s welcome home.

In life we have choices, choose kindness and act like Norway instead of thugs.

The confetti choice was an odd color to me. It seems like they could have some left over KC chiefs confetti around somewhere

Too bad the Argentine team behaved so poorly. I don’t know anything about soccer and even I could see that they were outplayed by Spain.

I turned off the coverage once POTUS walked on to the field.

I was at a previous World Cup match where Argentina (going in as favorites) lost (badly) to Germany. Sure the Argentine fans seemed kind of entitled and arrogant at the start but as the match went on they just got quieter and quieter - there wasn’t anything like this bad behavior. That was “only” a quarter-final though so maybe the difference? Or has something changed in the last decade or so?

Good question. I think Argentina is getting heat for being perceived as Infantino and Trump’s darling, and also as the “corporate” favorite because of Messi’s sponsorship $$$ bonanza.

So some of the heat is projected, and maybe not the fault of the players. But the behavior on the pitch is 100% on them. They could have risen above those projections with good sportsmanship but instead they played right into them.
