Italy over Australia (although ill bee vying for the roos)
Ukraine over whoever takes group G (group G is ****e)

<p>I have to say this is probably the worst reffed WC ever. I say with more than 10 years experience reffing,30 playing and 20 coaching. Bad call upon bad call mainly because the CR is behind the play and can’t see. FIFA has to address this for next time. Alot of these games are turning into a joke, not just the US game. This mornings Ukraine/Tunisia match was sad. So many bad calls, so many cards, it’s the first game I quit watching before final time. </p>
<p>At this point the round of 16 is going to be missing so many first 11 players that the teams without a deep bench don’t stand a chance. What a shame to wait four years and see such bad calls in just about every match. Maybe FIFA needs to add another CR, the headsets aren’t working because it seems the CR when out of position doesn’t rely on any help from his AR’s. </p>
<p>I love the game at this level, the refs aren’t up to it, what a shame.</p>

<p>Opie: I do not have as much experience as you do (7 years reffing, 10 years playing) but I agree with your assessment of the referees this year. Jorge Larrionda, who was the CR in the USA-Italy game and pulled at least 2 bogus red cards (I didn’t get to see the play in which he pulled the 3rd), was actually suspended during the 2002 World Cup by the Ecuadorian federation for blowing calls. And they allowed him to ref this year!</p>
<p>However, your solution of adding another CR to help out the already placed CR would not be in compliance with the current Laws of the Game (Law 5 - The Referee). This would need to be changed. I believe FIFA has taken a look at changing it before and decided not to make it a possibility (though I might be wrong).</p>

<p>DAMN REFS!! WE GET CHEATED IN 2002 UP IN SALT LAKE (WE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN GOLD), but in TORINO WE OWNED US IN SHORT-TRACK (wave my little flag again), and now THIS!! It was Togo first and now Korea. yes many would say that we still would have lost 1-0 but I would have rather lost 1-0 then seeing my nation and my team get cheated a goal!! **** well job WELL DONE KOREA!</p>

<p>Nathan, I wouldn’t necessarily back an extra CR. FIFA could change it at the drop of a hat. They are the reason we have the problem this time around. What I am seeing is too literal interpertations of FIFA’s desires. I’ve worked with people before who do this, they don’t understand flow of the game and when a foul is just a foul going for the ball vs. fouling the man with no way to play the ball. </p>
<p>In this WC so far at least half the refs are over matched for the game’s they are doing. They are behind play back to their AR (Ghanas PK. ref behind play AND on Same side as AR). That is why replays are showing up so many of these CR’s more than usual for sure. </p>
<p>If this continues the WC won’t be decided by the two teams in the final, it will be decided by a CR who gets caught in transition and makes an almost 100% certain call, in other words… a guess. </p>
<p>Just watch… it’s only going to get worse.</p>
<p>Opie, I’ve seen a lot of the games this year and I have to agree with your assessments about the interpretations the refs are carrying out in the WC. And as you pointed out, they are not making use of the diagonal. Hopefully they’ll start getting it together, but I have my doubts.</p>
