I just hate games ending in PK’s…no matter how much I tell myself that its a mental game and such, it still seems like mostly chance to me. The keeper can either dive right or left, and if he’s lucky, he dives the way the ball is going.

i love how everyone is saying he definitely called zidane a dirty terrorist. Only Zidane knows and he isnt going to say anything. But as ive said, it doesnt matter what he said. A physical attack was something a seasoned pro shouldve have known better than to do

and yeah, ricardo is amazing with PKs.

It would be nice to find another way to end it for sure. Kicks from the mark remove so much that made the game get to that point.

My son would rather see the old start at the 35 and 6 seconds to score thing that was tried along time ago in minor leagues. At the whistle the shooter brings the ball up and takes on the GK 1v1 with 6 seconds to get a shot off.

Personally, I’d like to see teams have to reduce by two players, after two 15’s, every 10 minutes and golden goal it. That way a coach would have to decide whom to take off (defenders or attackers) and the field would open up. But I admit even that’s a bit hokey.

“has anyone ever defeated italy in penalty kicks? it seems that those are italys forte.”

How about WC 1998 when France beat Italy in penalties 4-3 because Di Biagio his the hit the crossbar?

haha, like hockey

the Italian knows what he said as well. His denials without expressing what he did say are interesting. He definately said something. It will come out. If it is a racist remark then FIFA has a lot to consider in dealing with it.

Yes, ZZ should have known better, it’s too bad it happened. We all have a point though when we’ve had enough. We also have to understand how he may feel about certain verbal remarks. It’s far too easy to tell someone to ignore something when we don’t come from the same background or have the same experiences growing up. Some words are fighting words. I hope at least it was an insensitive remark. I would hate to find out ZZ got sent off for something like “you suck”.

I really don’t think he cared. he already anounced his retirement in … . . april… so…

“let me give him what he really deserves before I leave for good” BAM!

he should’ve taken some blood with him too.

barthez looked so depressed, i wanted to give him a hug. but why is he still in the cup anyway … he looks 50…

he barthez isnt that great. he can be very good but makes crucial mistakes. Vs portugal when he hit the ball straight up instead of catching it led to a header missing the net by like a foot. a World Cup winning goalie cant be that sloppy

Materazzi’s an SOB who deserves to be put in a sack and thrown into the Mediterranean.

Go on Youtube and check out a highlight reel of his dirty plays. The lowlight is when he knowingly kicks AC Milan’s Shevchenko in the nutsack.

Part of me is deeply satisfied that he got owned on international TV, and that the lasting image of the World Cup of 2006 will be him crying like a weakling while Zidane menacingly looms over him.

yeah its easy to highlight his dirty play, while you downplay zidane’s stomping on a saudia player and a previous headbutt. Everyone has their problems, its a shame zidane let his come out at the worst time possible

Sheez…I’m glad Zidane headbutted him…

OMG. Fav goalie, anyone? I love him. Watching PKs against the England game was absolutely amazing.

Materazzi may have deserved something for his remarks and actions, but Zidane was not the person to dish out punishment.

Allegedly, this is what Materazzi said, according to forensic lip readers:

1) At least twice in the game, called Zidane’s sister a prostitute

Right before the headbutt:

2) Called him a ngger
3) Called him a son of a terrorist whore
4) Told him to ** off

Then he got it in the chest.

No wonder so many people hate the Italian football team. I know I do.

I remember in 2002 when the Italians were knocked out by the Koreans, how absolutely classless they and their fans were. Perugia even fired the Golden Goal scorer, Ahn Jung Hwan, before international reprimand forced them to reverse their disgraceful actions. It all had the undeniable stink of racism, where smug Italians refused to believe that they could lose to Koreans unless there was a massive rigging going on.

The idea of a fixed match is proposterous given the facts of the game, and if anyone wants me to explain, I’ll be glad to.

***** Italy. There are many things to admire about their history and culture, and I know nice Italians, but some of the things they do… Man.

Someone mention match-fixing scandal?

nbachris, can you post your source?

I want a source for that too.

Certainly.
