I’m tired of seeing publications in the U.S. (or maybe in Europe too) proclaiming to have compiled a list of “World’s Most Beautiful/Sexiest People” which mostly, if not completely, consists of white people.

I think these lists should stay just the way they are, because I don’t want tokenism to run rampant (for example, an average-looking guy like Kal Penn being annually included in these lists solely due to the fact that he’s pretty much the only Indian-American in Hollywood). But what I would like to see is the list renamed to something like “Hollywood’s Most Beautiful People”, or “America’s Most Beautiful People”.

Stick to what you know is what I’m saying. Look, I’m as big a fan of Matt Damon as anybody, but no other country in the world thinks he’s the “Sexiest Man Alive”. Probably not even America. So stop pretending like People Magazine represents more than one narrow viewpoint in one country.

haha yeah. I know so many people who are so much more beautiful than most of the celebrities on those lists. makeup, good lighting, and good photography can make virtually anyone look beautiful and make an already beautiful person look “world’s most beautiful.” I suppose they can’t really go around surveying all the hot chicks in the world, now can they?

edit: I would volunteer for that job, though, by the way.

I remember spike tv did a 100 best looking women thing and vividly remember Beyonce getting #1. Pretty good choice if i don’t say so myself. This was like 4 years ago, but my memory is a little fuzzy.

Maybe he subconsciously meant that most people in the world that matter are white? Who cares about a bunch of poor Africans and Asians? Like when a tsunami wipes out hundreds of thousands of Indonesians, we need to make a movie documenting the tragedy of the British tourists there because that’s where the story is.

My point is that nobody should ever pretend to be capable of compiling a truly global list of beautiful people because we’re all mentally imprisoned by our immediate surroundings. As I said before, the worst thing is tokenism.

They have an audience. They only care about money. Pathetic. And they need us more than we need them, so I say do without. And yes, this is coming from someone who no longer watches tv, listens to music, watches movies, reads magazines, or educates with corporate news media. It is possible.

Things are more interesting to the public when they make claims about the entire world. The magazines are only trying to sell copies and I don’t see why you would even read into it. They aren’t even serious about it.
