on june 28, 2018 i submitted a isir correction sheet with myself, my mom and dads W-2 forms because i was selected for verificiation for the year 2017-2018. The reason of this is because when i was filing for the 2018-2019 FASFA application, i went to look over my SAR from the previous year and i noticed that i didnt put my student income for 2017-2018. Going back to the beginning, i went to the office of the financial aid that day and i went in their office to review the documents before submitting. On the verification sheet i listed 4 Dependants but on my FASFA application for 2017-2018, i put 3 when it was actually suppose to be 4. Now im having anxiety because i was suppose to tell the financial aid advisor that i had an error on my household part of my FASFA for that year and i completely forgot because i was more worried about my verification worksheet. Now it is currently in the process and im currently afraid of going to jail for this particular issue. Should i be worried about this or can i still possibly get this corrected before the 3 weeks of verification is completed?.
You won’t go to jail for saying there were fewer household members than there are. Stop worrying about this.
On Monday, go back to the financial aid office and fix the household number. Trust me, they’ve met students who were even more frantic than you, and can help you out.
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer this response! i will go on Monday and correct this issue.
hopefully i can get more opinions on how people would view this situation.
People make mistakes on the forms. You will be going in to correct this. Don’t worry…it’s not fraud unless you do NOT correct something and get financial aid because of incorrect info you didn’t correct!
If I am reading this correct you under represented your financial need by accident and plan on correcting it. You have absolute nothing to worry about!! Just make the change.
Just make the change. Jail isn’t for innocent corrected mistakes on FAFSA. Jail for FAFSA would be for far more serious and intentional matters (fraud).
Thank you so much guys for the feedback .I will make sure that this issue is taken care of once again
