Worst Dressed: When Ugly AND Expensive Meet

There are worse outfits corrupting the fashion industry

I do not understand fashion. I looked the Gucci Fall 2020 show linked by @VaBluebird, and thought every single outfit was horrible in every way. All the models look like homeless people in Goodwill rejects. There isn’t one single garment or accessory that deserves to escape being burned in a big bonfire.

I agree, Fang. Not just the clothes and accessories, but the makeup and hair seemed contrived to make the models look absolutely ugly. Not exotic or interesting or even startling, but ugly.

The Gucci clothes were awful. Not one outfit looked good.

Note that the Gucci horrors were pre-covid. Perhaps the designer psychically realized how grim it would be in the fall. Those look like clothes from some dystopian movie.

OMG, that Gucci collection. I was going to keep track of the ones that were most outlandish so I could list them here, but it turns out that was just about all of them. I don’t understand why a young girl would want to become a model, if those are the clothes and the look that you have to wear these days.

Also interesting is that behind each model are people wearing what looks like Chinese Communist Party outfits – a gray uniform with what looks like a name tag on their left chest. Creepy.

Even the makeup is strange - one model looks like she has tears (mascara) running down from her eyes. They look like bad costumes for a play.

I don’t understand the current way these designers display their fashion. I see it in the Newman Marcus website also. Since when does ragged scarves and army boots belong with an evening dress??

I tried to post an ugly mens gucci outfit but it sent the facebook link rather than the gucci link.

I clicked on this in an ad in my FB newsfeed, and well, here ya go…

These look like they are ready for a porn movie:

This looks like it was taken from a little girl’s closet but made for a bigger person:

^^ The model looks like a guy.

Pretty sure it is. I can see the Adams apple in the side view.

It is a man. If you look below the smock dress, it’s “paired” with a men’s blazer, men’s shoes, and recommends an YSL men’s cologne. All for the low price of $2600. Wow. Just wow.

Right! The description of the dress/top is:

“Tackling social norms with a '90s grunge sensibility, this dress-style shirt challenges toxic masculine stereotypes and embraces gender fluidity.”

What is it with the models slouching? The dress/shirt would look much better standing up straight.

But it would look best (along with most of the links in this thread) in the garbage.

@ChoatieMom I can’t disagree.

On the other hand, the dress/shirt is not dirty, ripped, or ridiculously asymmetric. The color is not horrible, and it appears to be well made. My D would have looooved it when she was 4.

I totally missed that the orange shirt with the Peter Pan collar is listed as “Mens Designer Clothing.” I think I kind of like it better on a guy. Or on someone on the masculine side of genderfluid, whatever.

$2,600 seems like the price of clothing items that magazines like WSJ magazine (not the newspaper, but an associated glossy magazine: https://www.wsj.com/news/magazine ) dress the profiled people in and list the clothing items and their prices in the small print somewhere. But are there enough people willing to spend $2,600 on any clothing item?
