Would I Be Able to Go Here?

University at Buffalo is my top school choice. I’m interested in pursuing a degree in Biomedical Sciences. My average is a 90.4, my SAT superscore is a 2000 (1350 without writing) and I got a 30 on the ACT. In my nuclear family I will be the first person to graduate from college, and my cousin also went to the nursing school at UB (don’t know if they take that into account). By the time high school is over I will have taken 11 AP’s and 1 college level course, 3 Pre-AP’s and 4 Accelerated courses. I’ve participated in Key Club for 4 years, the musical for 2, pit orchestra for 2,the society of AP scholars for 2 and national honor society for 1 year. I’ve also participated in a hospital program for a year, Honor Roll and higher for 4 years, and have qualified for Ap Scholar with Honor. Will it be likely that I’ll get in/should I apply early decision?

The web site does not list any additional requirements for admissions to Biomedical Sciences (such as is done for engineering, music, etc.). If you really want to make sure, email admissions or the department to ask them.

Your resume certainly makes you look like you should get in. For the most part, UB bases their decision on GPA and standardized tests, and yours look fine.

As with most schools, a higher rate are accepted in early decision, though one could argue that this is a matter of self-selection. Only do ED if you’re sure UB is your top choice (and it fits your finances). If that’s the case, there are advantages to knowing sooner rather than later.
