Would I be considered an inern or a volunteer?

I have been “accepted” to help out a local orthopedic surgeon ased on contacts of one of my parents doctors. I’m inspired to be an orthopedic surgeon, but would I be considered an intern or a volunteer. I’m not getting paid, but it’s for him specifically.

wow…i’d like to see this question answered as well, i’m in a similar situation

A volunteer. An internship is a paid position that counts towards experience while volunteering doesn’t. If he gives you a clinical experience letter then its an internship but that isn’t very likely. Sorry though.

what’s a clinical experience letter? is it something official or is it just something the doctor types up that says i have experience in a doctor’s office?

It’s an official letter from the doctors office (with sign and seal etc.) attesting the fact that your work there has contributed towards your experience in the medical field thereby increasing your prospects of getting a medicine related job.
