I don’t have any black pants.
I think they are hideous.
If my top is a different color, it cuts you in half& if it is also black I look like a ghoul.

But if that’s what turns you on, I’m a radio.

Don’t confuse me with intparent. I’m sure intparent doesn’t approve of owning 8 bikes or 8 pairs of black pants, but I am not intparent and I have nothing against either of those.

I have a lot of black pants, from skinny pants to wide leg pants and various length too. I probably also have 20+ pair of jeans. Shoes and bags? Probably hundreds, and I sold some on Realreal since I moved back to NYC.

Jumping in at the end of the thread and I see the discussion has turned to bikes.

But I still want to put in a vote to wear the dress with pride, with a change in jewelry and shoes. :)

So let’s say one has this pretty taupe lace dress. What would be good jewelry and shoes to wear with it?

I have 4 navy cardigans. Not sure why. I have only one bike. It’s a Giant. Fitness hybrid if anyone wants to know.

Is that what we are talking about? I haven’t a clue

Doesn’t anyone collect shoes anymore?
I dont wear pants, but I do wear skirts.
But when I find something I really like, I am likely to buy at least two or three, because you know as soon as you look for it again, they will have changed the material, or the factory, or the cut.

I collect shoes.

CF-that’s like saying “I want to buy a bike, what bike should I buy?” There are lots of different answers depending upon what the dress looks like and what the wearer wants to project.

I have an LBD that I could style with espadrilles and chunky jewelry for a casual dinner and a movie, with scarves and heels for a business look, and with a pin and scrappy sandals for an evening look. I think one would need to see the dress to make any concrete suggestions. And know where the event is held - church basement vs outdoors vs fancy hotel.

In general, though, assuming the dress is similar to the one linked earlier, I would think nothing at the neckline. Maybe a great cocktail ring.

I collect shoes. Kiddos who have the same hind paw size steal them from me. There is only one pair that is off limits - my Miles sandals. She who patiently waits for 75% off sales gets her reward… http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/96841

CF, that would be tricky to answer without seeing the actual dress. So let’s make some assumptions. V-neck or scoop neck? Beading or not?

I’m thinking a knock-off of this style in taupe (it would be really pretty):

http://www.theoutnet.com/en-US/product/Dolce-and-Gabbana/Lace-gown/374815

No necklaces, just some dangly Alexis Bittar earrings, strappy sandals (no beading), a cocktail ring, and a simple clutch.

Oh my goodness. This business of “styling” a dress seems difficult and recherche. I’d better start NOW for my lovely niece’s wedding. She’s getting married in early October in NJ, outside. I think it’s going to be afternoon (and I hope it doesn’t rain!). What should I wear and how should I style it? Low heels; it’ll be on grass. Clear jewel tones are best on me. Actually, that Lauren dress in sapphire might do the job-- what do you think?
http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/index.jsp?productId=34380156&cp=1766613.3154363.11257763&view=99&ab=ln_women_cs_daytime&parentPage=family

But if that dress or another, I still have no idea about shoes.

That’s a pretty dress (and a nice price!). That could be styled a bunch of different ways. You could go conservative with pearls and diamonds, you could do a pretty dramatic statement necklace (just then keep earrings small), you could even do a metallic or patterned cloth kitten heel or wedge for fun. A dress like that is kind of a blank canvas - I would go shopping and see what accessories caught my eye and go from there.

CF - I think lower heeled (kitten heel height) wedges would be your best bet. A nude patent or silver would look great with navy (orange - navy is a classic combo, but contrast colors are not everyone’s cup of tea). If you are not comfortable with large statement jewelry, a pearl strand or a simple silver-toned necklace would be just fine. Dangly earrings (if your ears are pierced) or small pearl studs. If not - fugettaboutit. A clutch is good for parking lipstick, cell phone, some cash, car keys, etc. Get a tissue weight cashmere blend wrap from Nordstrom in a neutral color (I think they are on sale now). If you end up not using it at all, take it back - Nordstrom will take back stuff that had been bought when dinosaurs ruled the earth.

I like both Hershey’s and fancy-dancy chocolate, just like I like BBQ and 3 star Michelin meals. I get that it’s fine to wear a dress more than once, the question is whether its fine to wear it more than once to two similar occasions that might have overlapping guest lists.

I wasn’t supposed to be wearing scrunchies for the last 10 years? No one sent me the memo!

LOL - a little commercial break for some humor:

<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube;

Enjoy! :D

If you’re so inclined, I love the idea of the navy with clean, very streamlined orange heels – another color that could work is a hot pink, but it has to be the right hot pink, not fuchsia. A touch of insouciance is the intent here - you’re “funning up” the dress.

But of course a nude patent peep toe or a metallic would always work fine and fall into timeless and elegant. Do you tend to prefer gold vs silver?

I’d go to DSW or Nordstrom and browse the shoe department, see what strikes my fancy and build an outfit around that.

I don’t think heels are going to work. The wedding is on grass. Wedges, though, that could be possible, good thought. Not orange; I’m not a fan of orange. And although I do like pink, I think the style of an insouciant bright color shoe with a navy dress is not one I could carry off. I’d rather go for classic.

Silver, definitely, over gold. I s’pose I should look for a big silver necklace. Small, thin necklaces don’t flatter me, which is a pity because I have a pretty pearl necklace my aunt gave me when I was a girl. But I need something bigger to be in proportion with my big shoulders; a thin necklace just gets lost.

I have broad shoulders too so I get that. One suggestion might be a silver necklace that has a gray stone dangle - kind of an irregular shape. That would go well with silver shoes, but not be too matchy. I have a look in mind, I’ll see if I can find it online.

Sounds good, CF! A wedge is the way to go on grass, IMO. It is like a snowshoe for lawns, lol. Even small pointy heels could sink into the turf, making walking on grass a hassle.

Do you like this type of necklaces? http://www.neimanmarcus.com/Rebecca-Minkoff-Domed-Pave-Choker-Necklace/prod164310168/p.prod?eVar4=You%20May%20Also%20Like
