Would you attend?

I would be a No for both.

We are in NJ.
Just learned today our DS tested positive for the Covid antibody.
We all suspected his sickness back in Feb was Covid after hearing his symptoms after the fact.
It was early days and no testing yet
Just points out that there is either asymptomatic or undefined disease out there.
Not safe enough for me even for important social events.

Our DS is now fine but he was very sick for about 10 days.

I don’t think I would. There is simply too many risks involved with large groups.

No to both.

I’d probably go ahead with the interment, I am sorry your careful planning worked out this way, but if you feel safe with the air travel the rest seems manageable.

I’d say no to both events. My kid got married two weeks ago - neither family was there except via Zoom and my son was allowed to be his own officiant. They hope to have a party eventually, but probably not for a year or two.

We went to our 29 year old nephew’s funeral 2 weeks ago. All aunts and uncles came. One couple flew. We did it to support the parents and siblings of the deceased. His twin brother sobbed in my arms for 5 minutes. I still tear up thinking about him. I was nervous, but we needed to be there.

To follow up: I talked to my siblings, and they were also feeling uncomfortable with the risk. I checked with the National Park Service and the burial permit is good until the end of 2021. We have postponed our August plans - hopefully we can reschedule for next summer.

My brother passed away in late Feb. and the funeral was in Georgia the first weekend in March. It was shortly before everything started shutting down. I attended the funeral (full Mass, they did handshakes and communion in the hands!). I’m thankful I went, but I was very, very nervous because COVID wasn’t even on the radar down there at the time.

I started isolating at my dad’s house the next day. I had originally planned to stay another week, but left three days later. Instead of stopping through Atlanta to see my brother’s former spouse (my college roommate, dear friend and pharmacist), their kids and my other brother, I hightailed it 600 miles home.

Made only one stop for gas (thanks, Prius!), one stop for the restroom (welcome center at the VA-NC border, all hands-free) and had food in the car. The NBA shut down as I was at the I-81/I-66 interchange, 90 minutes from home.

Have been distancing/staying at home ever since, but I am high-risk. I won’t be going to any funerals, weddings, indoor restaurants or visiting either our kids (3,000 and 5,000 miles away) or our extended families. So, I’ll be sending regrets to pretty much everything, but I don’t expect that anyone who knows me will be surprised or upset if I decline. DH will also decline because he doesn’t want to bring it home to me.
