If your father works at UVa and can make a call to the admission dean, will it help your chance? Is it a wrong idea?

ive heard of a number of people who have done something along those lines

It’s not a “wrong” idea, but I seriously doubt it will do anything to get you in.

So it is acceptable? That’s weird because I thought it would be considered “bribery” or anything like that.

How do you think the world works? It’s all about pulling strings and using connections.

If I could, I would. It’s not cheating the system, and anyway I bet the dean has so many people talking to him trying to get their kids in that it wouldn’t really help that much. I may be wrong, though. Anyway, I think you will have an edge already if your father works at UVA - correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t there a blank on the application that asks if your parents works at UVA? I’m not sure, but I know many college apps have this option

No, I can’t find that question asking if my parents work at UVA.

i got the feeling that it helped the people i know who were able to do it… i would say go for it.

thats a pretty cheap way of trying to get in. why dont you just earn your way in… wouldn’t you feel better about yourself?
