Would you have the courage to go retro in your kitchen?

I do not have a courage to update my kitchen, retro or not. But if I ever update, then it has to be an “easy sell”. There are no other reasons that would make me to update my kitchen except if the house is not selling because of the outdated kitchen, which is what we have.

Wow, Smeg stuff is really cute.

Thank you CCers . . . as always you help me to think this through. Thanks for the encouragement.

^^Oooh, I like the new avatar!

Thank you MOD . . . long road, wild ride.

You guys are making me feel like I shouldnt have turned down a Potential inheritance. Last year, I could have taken an “original retro” mixer (I think it was Kitchen-aid, and was probably for the 60s or maybe 70s). It was a stand mixer, with lots of complicated “thingies.” I took the bowls, but let the actual machine go. Darn that bag a week thread!!! I have a modern Kitchen-Aid, but it just looked so cool…

Ha ha @1214mom. That is the nightmare of us clutter bugs - we let go of something that we actually may want later. :stuck_out_tongue:

You did the right thing. As someone mentioned upthread (?) the better plan is to buy new stuff that just looks old.

I would not want my the fridge my parents bought when I was born! It is probably still alive somewhere, but my sister did not let mom move it into her condo when mom downsized. I threw out the electric tea kettle mom had for years… It was really gross on the inside but was miraculously still boiling water, so mom kept using it. You guys inspired me to hunt down a few pieces to throw out!

@SouthFloridaMom9 Check out #4 on this list. Instead of going retro, I think you’re just ahead of the trend on wanting colorful appliances.

I am totally digging the Azure Blue Range!

I have one of the appliances on the list… Steam oven! A bit less moolah (by Miele), but it does the same thing, so the days of boiling dumplings are long gone.

Almost wish I’d never read this thread. These appliances are so darn cute, especially love the blue. I had my appliances picked out for the new kitchen. Now I’m back to indecision. Argh. H will not be happy. Although he does love retro:).

@doschicos . . . L-)

That pink stove!!! Love it. And these appliances look seriously functional.

@Overtheedge - I know exactly what you mean. Almost sorry I discovered Big Chill. :stuck_out_tongue:

I seriously considered getting this stove when I was doing my kitchen: https://ajm-res.cloudinary.com/image/upload/c_limit,f_jpg,h_1000,w_1000/v1/products/vclfsge365dr_b1ed0.jpg but instead I got this table to use as an island https://butcherblockco.com/public/uploads/C6036-1S-2D-BN_-_propped.jpg

@mathmom - love that red stove! Your second link is the same red stove (?).

@SouthFloridaMom9 Ok I fixed it should be the table now.

@mathmom that stove is gorgeous. I’d have an issue with the clock, though, it seems like those always burn out fast because of the heat.

I love that the Big Chill stuff is made in Colorado. Viking stuff is made in Alabama.

Yes, the stove I got has no computers or extraneous electronics. I got so sick of replacing them on my old stove.

Oh wow that table is gorgeous @mathmom - cool way to add some color.

I think if I did a retro kitchen, I would try to also add some retro feel to the bathrooms. Maybe something with the tile, like this.

^^Pretty, but I can’t ever do pedestal sinks again. there is no place to put your stuff and every time you bend over to wash your face you knock what few things you can put on the sink onto the floor.

^^Agreed. Pedestals aren’t practical for anything but a powder room. The tile would give a retro feel even with a cabinet vanity.
