Wouldn't this just be awesome...

A transcript of a student’s grades, a “projected performance report” submitted by the teachers, a personality test (taken while hooked to a polygraph machine) along with a list of things the student is looking for in a college. The colleges then using the information at hand choose the students they want, a list of the colleges (the student has been “accepted” to) is sent of to the respective students and the students then choose the college they want to attend.

:)

P.S. The more time I spend on CC, the more I’m being hooked onto the rankings (sadly) and the prestige :(

How does one not get sucked into all of this (besides having a good safety of course)?

That’s odd, it’s the opposite for me.

Read the first couple of chapters of Admission Matters, they really help!

It was a good book.

I think I’m past that “OMG I won’t get in anywhere” stage. They come in waves :)

How does one not get sucked into all of this (besides having a good safety of course)?

– read up about the people you admire in your community, city, state – and see where they went to school. Odds are, you’ll discover they went to lots of different schools and still managed to do quite well in life. Unless of course you live on the upper east side of manhattan – then forget it. It’s Ivy League or else you’re a loser ;)

Interesting. The more I have been on CC, the more I’ve realized that there are many excellent options for students beside the colleges highest in the rankings.

Read “Colleges that Change Lives”. Stay off the student forums and on the parents forum. Or read a good book.

Ya none of my role models went to famous colleges (most of them are Indian but my point is still very much valid).

I guess it’s similar to the bandwagon effect Northstarmom :)

Ya I haven’t been to the student forums in quite a while, the Parents forum is very comforting and … well not as crazy. I’ll definitely read “Colleges that Change Lives” bethievt.

Forgetting the prestige, medha, what are you looking for in a school?

I want to go to a college that’s like my high school - wonderful and intellectually diverse peers. In simple terms, undergrad focus with a community feeling and intellectual experience.
