I just saw some photos on Twitter of Meghan and her mom arriving at their hotel. Wow, her mom is good-looking. You can see where Meghan got her eyes and her smile – her mom has the same features. And she sure doesn’t look old enough to have a 36-year-old daughter.
Let’s be honest. The British Monarchy, in their own way and with their own rules, shills themselves out to the media as well as other avenues to make a buck off themselves. Just needs to be on their own terms. It helps them stay relevant and visible as royalty really has no useful purpose in modern times and stretches to find relevance as well. It’s been the young women who have married into the family who have largely sparked the interest of the public in recent decades . Sure, the Markle family has had missteps but add me to the list of those thinking the whole situation could have been handled better.
When you put your likeness on a dinner plate, not sure how many stones you should cast. That said, I think the people that get all hot and bothered aren’t so much the royal family but the media and others looking to make a buck off the hoopla - the royal watchers and those making their living commenting on such stuff.
You’ll get no disagreement from me.
Yes, dos, people in glass houses…
A lot of this fuss is the media boredom before the party starts.
“Watching a US station cover a British royal wedding is, IMO, tantamount to…” watching the gals find hundreds of words to describe dresses on the red carpet. Much Ado.
I plan to channel flip, too. Only so many minutes I can watch a carriage proceed up the street, lol.
Btw, will admit I did not- and do not- like Kate’s dress.
You forgot the hats. IIRC from William and Kate’s wedding, there was a lot of discussion about that, including trying to explain to audiences what a fascinator is, with the commentators pretending that they knew what it was beforehand.
Anyway, the ceremony is an hour. Add 30 minutes for the commentators trying to correctly identify the arriving guests. Add another 30 minutes for the ride to the castle. That’s 2 hours of 5 hours of coverage. A lot of dead time to fill.
Personally, I’ll wait to watch the highlights tomorrow night.
“Btw, will admit I did not- and do not- like Kate’s dress.”
Pippa’s dress stole the show that day!
Too bad I will be solidly asleep on the West Coast… I’ll just wear my finest Burberry nightshirt and watch dreams about princesses and scones…
Half the draw is seeing what fashion don’ts Beatrice and Eugenie will be decked out in this wedding.
Most US networks have a Brit on the team to provide the back story and the right air of formality to the coverage.
And, yes, I’m not going to wake up early for it when you’ll be able to watch the highlights ad nausuem all weekend.
Poor B and E, their mother apparently wanted to raise them not to be self conscious about their appearance.
See the pix of Meghan’s dog riding with the Queen. Cute.
They must reaallllly like Meghan.
Well, there’s not being self-conscious and focused on appearance and there is poor taste. I actually think their outfits at William and Kate’s wedding and other events were all about getting attention, though. You don’t wear some of the stuff they do unless you are looking to be very conscious about it.
Drizella and Anastasia did auction off their facinators for charity, so they are good sports about it.
The big question is…Will Harry shave his beard before the wedding?
Sorry, can’t love her. Fake humanitarian, Harry needs to grow up and man up. Between his nude dancing, nazi dress and constant whining about the press I’m done with them. Wills and Kate are the real deal!
I hope he keeps the beard. It looks good on him, IMO. I like Harry. He has spunk and personality.
I vaguely remember now that I watched the last royal wedding with either the pair from What not to Wear or the Say Yes to the Dress people. They had a huge crowd, outside, in NYC watching and the man was practically in tears over Kate’s dress. Does anyone else remember that?
I loved Kate’s dress. I like Harry and Meghan and wish them well! The alarm clock is set. Have fun watching, everybody!
Harry can’t wear a uniform with the scruffy beard, so I guess he has to decide if he wants the uniform or the beard. Of course, rules might be different for him, but that’s what I heard on the 10,000 hours of pre wedding programming I’ve seen, that it’s beard or uniform.
I think it will be uniform.
Well, if you google “Prince Harry beard uniform”, there are plenty of images of him wearing both the beard and the uniform.
Aren’t there all kinds of British navy officers that sport beards? Is this whole beard/uniform thing specific to weddings?
And who cares if some people gripe if he breaks with some kind of tradition. You know some traditionalists will find something to gripe about regardless. Lots of old traditions have been and are being broken. What’s one more and a harmless one at that?
“Prince Harry has dedicated 10 years to serving in the Army’s Household Cavalry’s Blues and Royals, so it would be a surprise if he didn’t say “I Do” in his service uniform. If he does decide to dress in a more military style, he’s actually not allowed to have the beard. According to historian Hugo Vickers, tradition states that people wearing the uniform are not allowed facial hair unless it’s for religious reasons. Prince Harry has broken that rule in the past and received pushback from the royal family and the military for it.”
I think it is a bigger deal for him to break the rule when he is the center of attention.
Just wishing the best of luck and a happy future for them! :))
The Queen’s grandfather wore a beard with his uniform, as does her cousin, Prince Michael of Kent. I’m betting on the beard with the uniform.
I’ve been watching Meredith Viera’s coverage all week on PBS and one night Dickie Arbiter, the Queen’s former press secretary, was on and trash talked B & E’s headgear from the last wedding in a pretty humorous way. Evidently many in the press called Beatrice’s hat an embellished toilet bowl seat at the time.
