Cressida’s dress came from http://www.eponinelondon.com/
I thought Meghan’s dress was reported as ivory.
Yes, but the Queen would want it made in electric blue or fuchsia.
I understand the rationale for the Queen wearing bright colors when she’s out in public to make her more visible, but it still strikes me as bizarre.
Yes.
B-)
The Queen looked lovely. At 92, she should certainly be able to wear any color she darn well pleases!
So be it. Wish Amal had taken her shopping. The lady is 61, not 81.
She has amazing stamina for 92! I think her rocking the bright colors, especially at her age (I understand why), is just awesome.
I loved the Queen in the green with the touches of purple! I thought Meghan’s mom looked lovely. It was a very pretty mom of bride outfit and I like that coat over dress look for a daytime wedding along with the hat. I thought her interactions with Prince Charles caught in images and video were delightfully surprising.
I didn’t realize Meghan’s mom was my age! I wouldn’t be caught dead in what she wore. So matronly. Even my 88 year old mother wouldn’t have worn that.
Doria looked elegant. Oscar de la Renta.
Amal’s train-- I put that in there with "ugliest fascinator wins.’ I saw it as homage to some peculiar English fascination with flourish. Lol.
Btw, the comments about Meghan’s bodice tailoring- that’s how that sort of silk works and double silk all the more. Unlike stretchier materials, it doesn’t cling. It has it’s own “hand.” For many, that’s part of the look you accept in return for the luscious fabric choice.
Wow, Now classic, elegant Oscar De La Renta has become something others wouldn’t “be caught dead in.” No way to win here! I thought it looked so appropriate and lovely next to the other women on the steps of the chapel. No more “matronly” than what the much younger Kate wore. Just classic and in good taste for an afternoon English wedding.
Camilla’s the one whose “taste” baffles me, considering her resources. (Lol, not to mention, her status.)
I had to look for the dress that mimics the Arizona Iced tea can, @skieurope . You’re right.
All this talk about Amal… wasn’t anyone else drooling over George? She looked great, he looked even better!
And I loved their color contrasts.
Drooling over George is a given so no need to comment !
For those of you who think the bride’s clothes and hair were sloppy, I hope you never get a glimpse of me on a Saturday morning standing in line to get an Egg McMuffin. X_X
Amal’s outfit was perfect…for standing in a highway construction zone holding a “SLOW” sign.
“I want whatever she used on her lips. What a great subtle color.”
@Midwest67 Her lips are supposedly Dior Lip Glow in Coral Glow.
I have only read through the last 4 pages. My comments are:
- I do not agree that silk fabric dictates a poor fit in the bodice. The dress definitely did not fit her well. Huge difference between that fit and the fit of Kate’s dress (perfect) and Diana’s. Those dresses were made for the respective bodies.
- Combine the fit of the dress with the boring and even unkempt hairstyle: What was she thinking? It was embarrassing that she seemed to be saying, “Well, what do you expect? I’ve never been to a formal event before.” The latter is probably not true, but then, Why didn’t she groom herself for a globally televised event? Surely she could have afforded stylists to come up with something more elegant. That’s her everyday hair look, by the way. Same for the makeup.
- I have a very mixed view of feminism, so I am completely underwhelmed by her trademark feminism. It doesn’t make her a great human being.
- I thought that the “cultural” (black American) additions felt mostly artificial and forced, including the Stand By Me, which in itself is a nice piece but I thought it utterly not in keeping with the style of the wedding. Some of the other pieces were beautifully chosen, though, such as the great Thomas Tallis.
- I thought that the prayers and commentaries by the the clergy were utterly gorgeous and terribly moving. Twice I saw Harry cry, and he appeared quite spontaneous about it. I’ll bet he was thinking about his mother and wishing she had been there.
- Despite the fact that as a person and a woman she does not impress me at all, I found the moment of the actual wedding ceremony moving in a universal way: just two people, starting an entire life together. I can’t help feeling as happy for them --because I have so much respect for marriage as a traditional institution-- as I am for every sincere couple getting married. That part brought me to tears. Their interaction during the ceremony appeared to be genuine, simple, and spontaneous.
- Loved the fact that she had taken the trouble to learn some words of hymns and to learn God Save the Queen. That was a respectful touch on her part. I think that was one of the moments when Harry was tearful, at the end when he was singing the anthem.
And just to reiterate the business about the fabric. Diana’s dress was silk taffeta and unquestionably fit her body.
Silk taffeta and bonded silk cady are very different fabrics with a different drape and hand.
Not that it’s easy to see a fit on Diana’s dress - with an overload of embellishment and cream puffery.
Yes, “pure white double bonded silk cady – a thick fabric – which has a soft matt lustre.”
Different.
And some of us have been on or watching the long wedding thread here, during which a number of daughters have been married. No one want to hear a critique from the bleachers, lol. These are momentous occasions, deservng of our respect.
Btw, anyone want a free for all over Diana’s dress’s wrinkles?! No, didn’t think so. So why is Meghan a target?
