I think I read somewhere that they were planning to honeymoon in
Namibia? Or perhaps that was just a rumor… I wonder what location the British bookies are betting on.
Thing is, aside from the romance aspects, this is a career shift for her, same as many of us have done. She’s been involved in charitable efforts before, that seems important to her. Except for some longer service trips, she won’t be doing this 40 hours/week. She’ll be ushered and have comfortable arrangements, security, her needs anticipated.
I don’t think we should underestimate her, not when so many of us value empowerment. Her bigger issue, imo, will be getting a sense of privacy, but we already know Harry stood up for her. The wedding (and other aspects) already suggests they know how to assert their preferences.
And Harry has said they slept in the open, in Botswana. I suspect that doesn’t mean completely under the stars, but not the full array of luxuries. It’s said Africa is where Harry escapes the glare and demands of everyday royal life. More power to them.
I do think we should resist assuming she’s a bimbo.
I’m not sure why you’d think that. Meghan has travelled to Africa several times with the humanitarian work that she’s done, even before Harry was in her life.
And apologies, but why do we target other women, judge them so harshly, before we know more? Or is it because she’s relatively young, pretty and was in the entertainment biz? We can root for her. we could hope for the best in her efforts, rather than assume she’ll be a griper.
Come on, Doschicos, just about everybody in that position would figure out a way to pass the Botswana Test BEFORE the wedding. I like her a lot, but nothing about her says “Thank God I’m a country girl.” She grew up in LA, went to college in Chicago, worked in Toronto, & married a guy from London.
And he’s a guy from London–but you assume he genuinely likes Africa and she doesn’t. Because she’s from LA. OK.
I have to laugh about how she gets criticized by some for not being glam enough at her wedding and going for a natural look. Now the assumption she isn’t a “country girl”.
People don’t fit into neat little boxes - “city girl”, “country girl”. Most people are a little more complex than that. My own kiddos wear the city mouse and country mouse hats equally well, living in cities but also living completely off the grid for months. I’m sure many others manage to do similar.
Haven’t seen anyone imply though that Meghan is either a “bimbo” or a “griper.”
I’m sure she does like Botswana, as well as many other places. Just like many other people do.
Wherever they end up (and reports indicate it is probably Africa), hope they have a wonderful honeymoon!
Don’t tell me you think everyone who grew up in LA is a “Rich kids of BH,” lived in a mansion with servants and a fat allowance.
Sevmom, the comment she was" a lot more enthralled with Botswana than the person he woke up with." Or will whine about Rome.
Why cynical?
Never said she was a griper, a bimbo, or a spoiled rich kid. She’s smart, tough, & classy. I’m saying she seems to be someone who likes the urban life. Nothing wrong with that. Maybe she’s got a country side (other than the pre-wedding Botswana Test). If so, the press sure isn’t talking about it.
I didn’t see @moooop 's post in #771 as cynical. Why shouldn’t it be a possibility that an independent woman might want to have some input into where they spend their honeymoon? They both seem to like Africa , so that may very well be where they end up. But, I fail to see how it would make her a “griper” to suggest other possibilities.
Apologies, but that’s not how it came across to me, including the implication she “liked” Botswana to land the man, referring a cocuple of times to “The Botswana test.”
Many of us have multiple sides. And the press has previously covered her charitable work in India and other places, how she did this work without fanfare.
Even so, Diana was far less educated or worldly (did grow up in wealthy spendor, lol,) and few seem to have issue with her work to draw attention to causes, needs, and the people. We don’t joke about her luxury suite when in Africa. Ihighly doubt she walked at random through the landmine fields. But we can see the good.
Some wedding guests are selling their official goody bags on eBay. I wonder what the Clooneys did with theirs? Didn’t he donate his swag bag from the Oscars to charity?
Iread they were gifts to the people outside, not the seated guests. I read one charity is selling theirs to raise money for their cause.
I’ll bet that melted chocolate coin in particular will be great!
I’m chuckling at the 20% off coupon for the Royal merchandise shop.
Really, dos, that one gave me the SMH moment. Cheesy. I once took a class with a great guy who taught that every interaction is a chance to make a sale. So, wedding visitors, you stood outside for a few hours, now come visit our gift shop.
At least they probably don’t sell that commemorative plate with Ed Sheeran instead of Harry. LOL.
I’ll trade my coupon for anyone’s ginormous chocolate coin or tea biscuits - any takers?
The real winner, that was shown on the same ebay page, is the KFC Limited edition Golden Harry and Meghan Commemorative Fried Chicken Bucket. Only $134!
The bags were given only to the 2500 guests who were asked to the grounds, and most of those were there because of their charity work. I’m glad they are selling them for charity.
No you wouldn’t - YouTube links are allowed, unless they are attached to an account that would otherwise not be allowed. Terms of Service was updated to remove the prohibition on YouTube. I have to follow the rules, too. ![]()
ETA: Oops, I see @MaineLonghorn already said this.
