Well, I disagree. Whether he got into Cambridge because of his rank or not, he IS intellectually inclined, and he did complete a university education.
Every time i hear that Diana was just as responsible as Charles for their disaster of a marriage, I remember that she was still a teenager who had never had a real boyfriend and he was a man in his thirties (hmmm, reminds me of someone else in the news lately). when they got engaged. My impression of the initial Charles and Camilla relationship was that, while Camilla’s “unsuitable” reputation would have been an issue, he would have been able to marry her but he chose to go overseas for his military career instead, without either proposing or asking her to wait for him. She chose to marry Andrew Parker-Bowles and carry on an affair with Charles, apparently with her husband’s blessing. (Real class act, these folks.)
Anyway, to get back on topic I’m thrilled at this engagement between Prince Harry and Megan Markle, who I think will be the best addition to the royal family since you-know-who i just hope that it will be televised so I can wallow in one last royal wedding and laugh at the funny hats! Well done, Harry, you are your mother’s son!
He got a 2.2, with all that privilege.
Let’s hope not.
I gather that you don’t know what that means. That’s 2:2, not 2.2. Here’s something that will explain it:
Maybe that was good for him, @Sybylla. Maybe it would have been a 1.6 without all that privilege.
Again, it is not a 2.2 GPA.
Totally irrelevant.
Besides, I know many people who got straight As, even from top schools, who are not intellectuals by any means and people with weaker GPAs who are very much intellectuals. The two things don’t always go hand and hand.
Charles is very well read / intellectual in the areas he is interested in such as architecture.
I haven’t been able to respect Charles since I heard the tampon phone call. Yuck.
Hmmm…call me crazy, but I find a man who desires a woman periods and all admirable. Especially as she ages.
LOL, a 2:2 is more like a C. Depends on what you C&P.
I’d be interested in the source, since IMO, it only in some alternate universes where a 2:2 equates with an A. When recruiting, top companies look for a 2:1 or better, as would grad schools. However, keep in mind that Charles received his degree in 1970, where a “Gentleman’s C” (which is really more in line with a third, not a 2:2) was more accepted. I’d also posit that his academic performance is on par with many political leaders on both sides of the pond. And to give credit where it’s due, he will be, I believe, the first UK monarch with an earned university degree.
Both William and Kate graduated with a 2:1.
I just read a biography on Prince Charles. I found it very interesting, although it was heavily slanted in his favor where Diana was concerned. Camilla was already heavily involved with Andrew, although there obviously was a spark. Yes, it’s a shame they couldn’t have just wed from the get go, it didn’t for reasons that are Charles. But when he agreed to wed Diana, no matter what a foolish decision that was, he was obligated to quit fooling around. He doesn’t get a pass in my book, because he wasn’t man enough to stand up to Mummy. Yes, Diana was silly to marry him not really knowing him…but at 19 she gets that pass. From what we have all read, she didn’t fool around on him first, so that’s why I’ll always be in her camp.
She seemed to really care about people and connect with them.
To clarify, “Andrew” refers to Andrew Parker Bowles, not Prince Andrew.
Agreed. And I don’t think anyone will argue that she did a good job raising her kids. On the flip side, she, by some accounts, developed into an expert manipulator.
As they all are.
I agree, and she really knew how to work the press when she wanted. A woman scorned.
My D who lives on the same street as the house where Meghan lived here in Toronto told me today that Meghan’s house is now for sale. She rented it for years while here filming Suits. I think the owners may be trying to take advantage of the publicity, who knows.
@alwaysamom ^Yes. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-5163283/Property-Meghan-Markle-won-Harrys-heart-sale.html
I love this thread. It’s so happy. Two cute people in love, who will have a beautiful wedding that we all get to watch and talk about. We need good news.
For you British Royalty followers, have you seen this? Made me laugh.

Those are cute! I love this new couple, but I’m a little disappointed in her wardrobe and hair choices. I’m not a fan of the messy bun, and I’m already tired of seeing her in black, beige and brown.
