That article is ridiculous. It was obviously not a “black tie” affair: Harry was wearing a blue suit, for doG’s sake! If it were, HE would have been the one inappropriately dressed, not her.
I would have thought that someone writing for Town and Country would know better.
She’s a gorgeous woman, and she has her own smart look. Obviously some people would be happier if she bought into a more traditionally feminine look, closer to the the fairy tale princess.
I have to admit that, looking at the photos, even I am a little startled by the tuxedo, although she looked great. 
And, in fact, she was dressed more formally than Harry. Some kind of dress would probably have matched him better.
Honestly, I hope she does break some “rules” and modernizes things. Many women don’t like to wear skirts or dresses. I thought we were well past that but change in the British Monarchy comes at a glacial pace. (Is that phrase still relevant in the time of climate change?) In that article she certainly looked a lot better than the people on the left and right.
Her pantsuit was fine, Harry wasn’t in a tuxedo. They looked business appropriate. I hope to see her in more color going forward.
Love them! as i said in another thread I think it’s fascinating that Charles decision to marry Diana which was clearly a huge mistake resulted in 1) Children with the charisma and character to help the monarchy survive in the modern era…I mean if he’d married Camilla first which he clearly should have because he actually liked and loved her, I just don’t think their progeny would have turned out to be so endearing and 2) A willingness by the royal family to be more flexible as to the choice of mate, such as commoners and bi-racial divorced Americans because they realized that liking and loving ones mate was more important than protocol.

Strange ? Ok. But i think it’s true. Those boys got their mothers charm and social graces. AND their fathers stability. A rare and excellent combination. Camilla seems like the love of Charles life, but she’s like him. Many nice qualities but, like Charles, being able to launch a charm offensive isn’t one. I believe that the social abilities those boys have was a heritable quality and much less likely in children produced by Camilla and Charles.
I’m sure Camilla was very charming at age 19. B-)
Although certainly Diana had more star power wattage than the vast majority of people.
Part of the reason William and Harry are so loved by people is that their mother was loved. She did things with them that normal mothers do like taking them to theme parks and river rafting. She also showed them the non-aristocratic side of life, AIDS patients and the homeless. She raised attention to land mines. Would Camilla have done any of that? It’s speculation of course but she has been married to Charles for many years now and has done little of the charity work that Diana did.
I am willing to bet that none of us actually knows what kind of charity work Camilla has done in her life. Especially since little or none of it involved publicity spots and being trailed by photographers.
I have the impression that part of the deal with their marriage is that she has deliberately maintained a low profile, particularly at the beginning.
Princess Anne was known as the most hard-working royal, in terms of her appearances and activities for charities and causes. You didn’t see pictures of her doing all of that spread across the TV and newspapers. And of course, no internet.
It would be interesting to see Meghan trade her messy bun for her natural head full of curls.
I won’t be shocked in she backs out of the whole horror show. If she is as smart and publicity savvy as to be expected from someone in her business and profile, the stifling nature of the firm will be apparent already. It is not like she is some young starry eyed girl. Even as a back burner royal accessory, she will be toeing the line. I hope she finds it worth it.
I’m just happy for Harry. He was always my fav - think he has a lot of spirit and a bit of the devil in him. He seems very much in love so I really hope she stays the course and brings a lot of happiness into his life.

Reviving this thread to commiserate with poor Meghan for the appalling behavior of the Markle side of her family. I’m kind of sorry for her father, but the half-sister is a real piece of work. Writing a BOOK about “Princess Pushy”? OMG, I hope no one buys it.
I’m a fan of the various wedding threads here, and people often have difficult relatives to deal with. At least it isn’t in the glare of international publicity! They should just all shut up already about whether or not they are invited to the wedding. All they are doing is making it perfectly clear why Meghan wants nothing to do with them.
Luckily, her mother seems like a lovely woman.

I feel sorry for the Dad. He seems a little overwhelmed and out of his element. The sister has created a mess. Very sad that he won’t be able to walk his daughter down the aisle.
I don’t feel sorry for the dad. The glare of all the publicity would be hard to take but he should have risen to the occasion instead of trying to cash in with sleazy paparazzi photos. The mother seems better (although she may be going on Oprah). I hope she stays classy. It makes Meghan more relatable as we all have nightmare relatives to deal with before weddings, ha.
I don’t think it’s clear that he was trying to make money, or even that he got any. According to the sister, he was just trying to project a more positive image, at her suggestion. It is possible.
What a mess. I can see how the mother could be persuaded that going on Oprah would enable her to clear the record, so to speak.
@intparent Meghan is relinquishing her US citizenship, therefore, I think that unless their future kids are born in the USA, it is unlikely they will have dual citizenship. Is that right?
