i was similar to thewho123 as well, however my sat’s were lower than his, simialr gpa, but i also am an eagle scout and have some other good ec’s (student council, sports, work, etc)

so is there no chance for us to get in anymore? how many ppl get in through waitlist?

thats really wierd, i got accepted
3.2uw, 3.5w
2130/2400, 1470/1600 SAT

2 years of 2 varsity sports, no other EC’s really

i thought it would be my safety and it was, but my stats are pretty close to a lot of the stats on here, im surprised so many people got waitlisted

waitlisted: 3.1 gpa, 30 ACT, lots of community service, tons of work exp. hmmm… I hope it goes better at my other schools.

I think if your credentials look too good, they will know you are not going to attend their university. That may explain why you some of you were waitlisted. Im international, i got in with lower sat scores than most of you.

Yea…NU was my safety. I got 2150/2400 1450/1600, 3.7 unweighted GPA and I got waitlisted. I was so confused . What’s the deal with this? I’d like to think that the admissions dept didnt think I would attend, but I’m hoping my other schools arent thinking the same way.

they were probably doing their best to eliminate those who applied to NE as a safety… whatever, I got into schools with much higher rankings, ironically.

3.3W/UW
some APs
1300/1900
awesome everything else… I think

all of you are focused so much on GPA and SAT’s. A LOT of people have great number stats. Many schools acceptances include other subjective criteria such as demographics, what school/major you are applying to, etc. NEU is trying to become a more well know university so drawing someone from California into a particular major might be more important than their SAT score. Don’t be too sure that they waitlist you just because they don’t think you will attend because you are using it as a safety.

Yeah, I got waitlisted…

GPA: 3.1 Unweighted
SAT: 2060

5 APs this year. ==

I go to a private school in Mass where my stats are 150 points above their average SAT accepted from my school, .2 below GPA, and above the average strength of schedule. They were one of my safety’s as well. IDK what happened.

question…
if you get waitlisted when do they let you know? admitted students in other schools have to make their decisions by May 1. how does that all figure in?

I got waitlisted too! 4.1W GPA 1990 SAT Applied for Architecture which is always competitive at any school. This was also supposed to be a safety but I already got into a much better school.

this thread really surprises me… i thought it was a lot easier to get in than that… i’m surprised i even got in after reading this

I have a question, i got accepted to spring of 2009 semester. weird? did this happen to anyone one else? or does this mean that im waitlisted?

I also got admitted for Spring 2009. It’s not weird - we just weren’t their top choices but our credentials were impressive enough for them to admit us in Jan. I consider it much better than an all out rejection and I’m probably going to take them up on it, if my family can swing the finances. Still waiting for a response from a couple other schools that I probably won’t get in.

Ohh wow!! This thread makes me feel lucky!!

I got in with a 3.3 Unweighted, 3.6 Weighted GPA
1480/2160 SAT Scores

Plus they gave me the $14,000 Dean’s Scholarship!

They are trying to build their reputation in expense of the students’ morale.

I got accepted as an International student and recently learned that they gave me no scholarships. I believe that many students are in similar situation as I am. I doubt if many international students can afford the ever-increasing 45G/yr college fees. So I, like most accepted students, will never matriculate so many of you who got waitlisted but have good finances will definitely attend. They are just luring many students by rejecting student who they think applied as a back up school.

For all the people with impressive stats who got waitlisted, did you show any interest in the school? If you’re from the New England (and especially MA) and didn’t take any tours of the campus, that’s probably what convinced the admissions office that you weren’t a serious prospect.

Yea I took a tour and submitted all of my stuff by Mid December. That is why I was so shocked, if it had been my favorite school I would be in a pretty bad situation right now after my college counselor told me there would be no doubt that I would get in. I e-mailed him and he said that sometimes colleges do this when they are really unsure how many accepted will matriculate, so if they can eliminate some people who they think will get into “better” schools it eliminates a lot of the grey area. This also explains the sentence in the waitlisted document that says to get on the waitlist if it is your top choice and would attend or something along those lines. It still sucks especially since I immediately thought it meant that I wouldn’t get into my normal schools if I couldn’t get into my safety. My main point is don’t worry if you got waitlisted-it doesn’t necessarily mean you had a major application flaw or that you won’t get into other schools…it may even be a good sign as you could have even been seen as OVERqualified.

I took a tour and my mom and I chatted with the adcoms for like 15 minutes. I submitted my stuff in December, and sent an update on my activities. I’m glad its not my first choice. (If I don’t get in to BU I’ll consider going on the waitlist for NEU though)
