<p>I think Northeastern likes my daughter’s high school.
Almost everyone who applied got in, though most of them will not attend.
Hopefully, it is students like those that will open up spots for the ones who really want to attend NU.</p>
<p>Too many applications from well qualified students makes application essays and teacher recommendations more important than in the past. As a co-op school, work ethic & maturity are very important factors that are reflected in one’s GPA, teacher recs & application essays. As suggested in post #5 above, any hint that Northeastern is not your first choice school may relegate top applicants to the waitlist.</p>

that makes a lot of sense. My daughter’s stats were great, as are many of the posters that got rejected or waitlisted.
She has been working in our family business since she was 12 and also volunteers at our local hospital. She has shown a lot of commitment to her work related activities.</p>
<p>I am also waitlisted. I was VERY disappointed like all of you who posted here.
A girl from my school got accepted to NEU with a 2.5 ish GPA im not sure if it’s uw or w and 1400/2400 SAT score.
In my school NEU is known for randomly accepting people…from people with not so stellar stats to accepting people with stellar stats. I’m thinking it is because NEU wants more diversity in their school in addition to other major factors.

<p>Could be that NU Admissions assumed that some of you guys who got deferred or waitlisted were using the school as a safety and they didn’t want you skewing their yield. I’m seeing some pretty respectable SATs here. I could be wrong but it happens a lot.</p>
<p>yeah my cousin got in… with a 3.6 gpa, 1500/2400 sat, and ec’s like “ranked #32 nationally at beer pong” lol. no money though.</p>

I’m surprised I wasn’t waitlisted, because I was using this school as a safety, showed no interest and didn’t even pay the application fee…I think they put a lot of emphasis on gpa, but mine was pretty low (like 3.4ish unweighted?)</p>

<p>brieb - nope, didn’t even bother paying. A NEU rep came to visit my school and it’s an excused absense if you attend any college info session, so of course I went to get out of class (I went to like 40 sessions lol). I wasn’t even planning on applying, but the info session actually made me really like NEU and so I applied. The NEU rep did an excellent job I think. But I still didn’t bother visiting (I’m from NY lol) or paying</p>

<p>No. In my opinion, GPA & transcript is a better reflection of a student than SAT or ACT.</p>
<p>The SAT is not a comprehensive test of a student’s knowledge and ability, while from an applicant’s transcript and GPA you can see their course load, their strengths and weaknesses, their successes (or failures), the breadth of their academic background, infer about work ethic, and see if they challenge themselves.</p>
<p>A high GPA would indicate consistency and diligence. And it’s probably more impressive than doing well on the SAT. Not that the SAT isn’t important.</p>
<p>Consistency, diligence, and/or an ability to suck up to teachers, to have parents whine to the administrations, or to not get caught cheating. I’m just sayin’.</p>
<p>P.S. I had a mediocre GPA (3.3ish), and I got accepted. FA is so horrible though, I very much doubt that I’d go.</p>

<p>I have a 3.1 gpa, a 2020 SAT (which is good, but not enough to balance out the gpa). So what did i do? Wrote an essay that will set me apart, an essay they will not see anywhere else.</p>

<p>The problem with GPA is that adcoms don’t know every school or every class. They go by the course name, and what the high school sends (if anything).
In my case, sculpture was extremely hard and I got a C. On the other hand, Physics is the easiest class in the school and my grade is 108%. I got a B in PHSCPC my junior year. Who knows what that stands for? Sounds like some graduation requirement, right? Actually, it was a challenging course for those going into the medical field.
It’s fairly easy to cheat through high school. Charismatic people can get away with it for years.
I have sucked up to teachers for better grades. My science teacher let me clean her room for an A two years ago. I graded history tests for an A last year.
Also, course rigor varies from school to school. Here, AP Psych is a joke and AP Lit is killer.
Standardized tests are just that- standard. Yeah, you study a bit, polish that algebra and learn some more vocab. If it’s as easy as it sounds, how come more people don’t get 2400’s? I’m not saying the SATs or ACTs are accurate representations of an applicant’s abilities, but if I were a college, I’d choose someone with a higher SAT and lower GPA over one with a high GPA and low SAT. Just my opinion.</p>

<p>I think sometimes gpa is an indicator of how easy your school is. I know people with 2200+ SAT scores, with 3.5 gpa’s, because they don’t go to an average school. I’ve met others with 3.9 gpa’s and 1800’s on their SAT’s. the test isn’t everything, but sometimes it’s an indicator of how hard the school was, because kids in rigorous schools do better on standardized tests. That 3.99 kid with the 1800 might not do as well in another school :)</p>

<p>my gosh, that’s ridiculous. but congrats. NEU is becoming really competitive…it seems as though a waitlist spot is still an honor.</p>
<p>I got in, but it’s because my Fresh/Soph GPA pulled my unweighted to 3.8, 2010 SAT, and a very, very lucky ACT score.</p>
