Daughter accepted with 28k Presidential Scholarship. 1520 SAT, NMSF, lots of APs, clubs, rower, girl scout. So proud and excited for her!
I am curious about how you know if they were accepted to a specific program. My daughter applied to Mechanical Engineering but it does not mention it anywhere in the acceptance.
My understanding is that WPI admits to the school, not to the major. So once a student is admitted they can major in whatever they want!
My son was accepted! Very excited to receive a 28k Presidential Scholarship! This is definitely a contender for my son! I am glad that I wonāt have to make the difficult decision of choosing, since there seem to be so many amazing colleges!!
I donāt have a dog in this fight, but if gender balance matters to you/your student then WPI may not be a good choice. My S23ās buddy who attends laments the M/F ratio of his class which is 85/15. Just something to consider as youāre making decisions.
While I agree thereās an imbalance (and my sonās concern as well), that number is way off.
According WPIās latest CDS, 37% of full time undergrads are female.
Thatās surprising - I saw recent data that M/F gender balance at WPI is closer to 60/40?
The latest CDS contains enrollment data as of October 2022. My sonās friend is in the class of ā27 and there is no reported data yet. The kid claims that figure came directly from admissions.
That seems like an unbelievable drop, and seems to run contrary to the gains WPI and other tech schools have made in recruiting women.
Weāre planning to go to one of the admitted students days, and will be asking about it.
Does anyone know how often in the past deferred EA students ended up being admitted? My dd was deferred yesterday and is so crushed.
Iām so sorry. My understanding is that in previous years quite a few students who were deferred at EA were later admitted.
thank you!
Really helps to reach out to the school and rep, visit if havenāt, update them on any new achievements, reiterate interest. Hoping for the best!
Re: gender balance - my son, a current sophomore at WPI, said the percentage of women to men has dropped his year and the current freshman class year from what it was when he was applying. So more women in the junior and senior classes then freshmen and sophomore. Iām hoping this trend turns around, because the more balanced nature of WPI was one of the things he liked about it, but I wanted to note that there does seem to be some merit, or at least some understanding among the students, to the āmore men, fewer womenā attending thing. I heard a (totally unsubstantiated) rumor that for the two referenced classes other similar STEM schools had upped the merit aid to women more than WPI did, making other schools look more attractive. No idea if thatās true, but if you were deciding between two similar schools and one was notably more costly I could see that being relevant.
thank you - just seeing this. we have visited and are reaching out as is the college counselor at her school. thanks again!
My son was deferred last year during the EA round and was accepted. In fact his original decision said he would be moved to the RD round but he received his decision by the end of February. He had sent a letter of continued interest as well as another recommendation letter. I canāt remember if he sent his 2nd quarter grades after the deferral or before. It was one of his top choices, but he ended up elsewhere. Not sure why he got his acceptance well before the RD admissions, maybe because he stressed it was one of his top choices, but who knows. There is still hope for your child!
Hi, out of curiosity where did he wind up? Do you recall what helped make the final decision? Thanks.
ED2 and EA2 decisions out unexpectedly today! Son accepted EA2 with $27K Presidential Scholarship. 35 ACT, 4.29 weighted GPA, 5 APs, Eagle Scout, Band (Concert, Jazz & Marching) and Robotics
Son heard back yesterday after being deferred / admitted!!
Curious why parents in this thread are sharing test scores since WPI is test blind.
