Didn’t get a great FA package so I’m probably not going. Do you guys know if need-base packages are sent later or if what I got was it?

My daughter was accepted and received very generous merit aid (Presidential Scholarship). She is very happy!! I have a quick question, does WPI admit into specific programs or is it just general admission and the student chooses later?

It has always been general admission. I am not aware of changes. Admission with restriction of major choices would be out of line with the WPI PLAN philosophy. It requires individual program -planning and selection to involve the student fully into the process.

See https://fye.wpi.edu/course-registration/a-and-b-term-course-registration/undecided/

You choose later. Everyone gets the major they want & many will do a double major or at least a minor. It is very flexible. No gpa requirements, no competing against others.

Picking courses off of a list of offerings requires an information exchange with knowledgeable students and faculty. Secondary schools rarely present an in deapth dialogue. 'Di" means two, but the expectation is that there will be an interactive presentation involving more than a catalogue of rules and a few choices. Some closer subject experience may help before you walk into the forest of possibilities. By nature, problem solutions often require some interdisciplinary approaches with teams made up of different disciplines as the best results require teamwork…

WPI wants you to ask questions and to discover answers meaningful to you… it is an important part of your education and can fire up your motivation! This is just what good projects do! Your course selection becomes more of a project. Self awareness of your own program structure brings commitment. Heavy loads become lighter.

DS off wait list yesterday with reasonable merit (for a male). Shift in interest from engineering to CS means strongly leaning towards other options…

@FHS2020

might be fun for DS to run through this CS research site for a sampling of ideas and directions. Don’t go by courses. Explore by activities.
