Writing about hardship essay correctly

I’m junior in high school and I’m planning my college essay. My parents are both delivery drivers on the side and are low income and I want to write about this. Obviously it won’t be about them but how what they do affects me. The end lesson id learn is to not compare myself to others and appreciate what I do have. It will be presented in a WAY more created format than this but this is the idea.

Do you think this is ok? Especially how I’ll talk about how I learned from the hardship?

I think the esaay can work 100%.

Ok that’s good to hear! Please let me know if u have any other advice.

I also think this could work. If you want help with a review of your essay, go to the essay readers thread, click “join” and follow the instructions. It is free and confidential, of course, done via private messages.

Got it! Thank you.

Start with an outline or draft and see how it flows. I’d avoid any hint of “poor me” in the essay and focus on how your attitude impacts your life and how it will translate into your becoming an appreciative and involved student on campus.

Definitely have your draft essay proofread. My kids asked a trusted English teacher or, as noted above, CC has volunteers who will read the essay.

If you can also add unique and interesting information about you as you follow this outline, it would make the essay even stronger. Less focus on what a righteous person you are with great morals, but also showing that you are a compelling person that will contribute to the campus in various ways.

Almost any topic is fine for a college essay without a specific prompt, but the essay does need to be about you, not about your parents. Achieving this may be more difficult than you might anticipate so writing a first draft is important in order to better assess your theme.

Got it! Do you recommend the CC volunteers? Is it known they’ll keep everything confidential?

As I said, my kids used an English teacher at the HS that they trusted, but I’m sure the CC readers will keep your essay confidential.

Speaking as a volunteer - yes, we do keep it confidential.

Absolutely your essay will stay confidential on CC. You will private message your essay to the reader that volunteers to help you and communicate only through that PM thread.

Got it! This makes me feel very reassured to use it. I’ll make sure to send over my first draft once it’s done. It’s so nice for the people who volunteer!

Ok sounds good!

Just follow the directions in the essay feedback forum. When you join and start a new thread there, there will be a template to populate and you just follow the prompts. And do not post your essay in any open forum!

Just make sure you don’t post the essay to the forum. You should follow the instructions here:

https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/t/follow-these-instructions-to-get-essay-help/3640959

After you post, essay readers will take a look and extend an offer to help. They will respond to your thread, and then will contact you by DM. After that, communication will happen entirely through DM.

Got it! Do you think this idea has some potential for an essay?

Sound good. I really appreciate the help. Do you think this idea has some potential for an essay?

Sure, it just depends what you do with it.

bit late to the thread, but wanted to show my support for this! I (rising college freshman) also wrote a hardship essay and it went well for me, so as long as the essay is really about how you’ve overcome your struggles, what you’ve learned, and how you’ve applied it, you’ll be okay. also, don’t be afraid to mess around with how you share your story–it took me 6 different drafts to find the way i felt most confident sharing mine (though hopefully it won’t take that much effort for you lol). good luck!
