I wasn’t sure whether to put this under the multiple degree programs forum or the College essays forum (I apologize if this is in the wrong place).

Basically, I’ve had a lazy eye (strabismus exotropia) my entire life. I have not had surgery to treat this condition, and it has not affected my academic performance. I was planning on writing about this in my ‘Why Medicine’ essay for combined BS/MD programs, because my lazy eye has had a huge influence on my interest in neuroscience and medicine.

However, I’m concerned that this essay topic would be too risky because of the lack of depth perception associated with strabismus. I’ve heard that the lack of 3D perception can be an obstacle to those entering specific fields of medicine, particularly surgery (which is not a field that I’m interested in at the time being).

Any thoughts on this?
