My daughter was accepted as well for Biology (pre-med) $24k per year plus books.
Son (2020) accepted with $23k per year merit scholarship
Daughter (2020) accepted for nursing with $20 merit
I would be very grateful for any feedback on Xavier from those who attended the X Day yesterday. My daughter has been admitted for nursing. As she would be coming from out of state would be particularly interested in thoughts attending as a kid who wonāt go home unless itās the long breaks. Thanks !
@lass71 We are OOS and attended yesterday. My daughter was grumpy in the car on the way over, but ended up absolutely loving it! Very nice campus, good people, positive atmosphere. It was a great day! Feel free to Pm me if you have any specific questions.
Thank you ! I donāt think I can private message you momofmanytoo because I havenāt posted enough so donāt have enough seniority on CC but I would love to hear more. Are you are able to pm me?
My daughter was also accepted to nursing. We are out of state and were wondering about X Day as well. Xavier is on our list to visit but any information would be helpful!
@Ollie5 @lass71 Iām not sure how to summarize it. I guess what I learned at X day is that the school is very centered around their athletics as entertainment. The basketball arena is very nice and was the center of the days activities. Also, no greek life. But students reflected that it didnāt make a difference. We actually heard stories of students staying out late playing sand volleyball until 2am, etc. So while there may not be frat parties, they seem to find the fun in other places. The school is very service oriented. Their motto is " All for one". Theology classes and ethics are emphasized. TBH I found this part of the culture to be the most appealing. The academic presentations were not anything out of the ordinary. It was the students, the campus, the vibe they gave off together that really did it for us. And we had a very cold campus tour and still maintained a positive reflection. The cafeteria and other food options were good. My daughter seems to focus on that a bit since she has dietary restrictions. We skipped the optional dorm tour because A. the dorms looked nice and the students spoke well of them, and B. My daughter said it literally didnt matter to her because everything else was so awesome.
So thatās it.
Thanks much for the great information! How were nursing labs? We are excited to visit!
Thank you so much for the feedback on your visit. Itās great the students talked so positively about their experiences. I like there is a lot of emphasis on service and giving back. Its also a great way to make friends.
Did you get a sense that many students stayed on campus during the weekend? Also did they mention any safety concerns?
I also wondered how diverse the student body is? We live in the San Francisco Bay area and she has never been to the mid west before. And the weather will be a shock I am sure!
Thanks again momofmanytoo
@lass71 and @Ollie5 The nursing labs were very, very nice. The Health United Building (HUB) is so new, you could smell the paint walking up to the SIM labs. State of the art technology in all the labs. Spring semester the campus recreation facility will be finished on the other side of the HUB as well.
There were quite a few students who live nearby but they did mention in one of the sessions that it is definitely not a suitcase school.
No safety concerns mentioned. I believe they said they have 30 police on staff plus 2 addāl police depts that serve campus. They mentioned a campus escort service during our tour. There are some sketchy areas leading into campus but it did not make me feel uncomfortable.
Its fairly homogeneous group but I did see a bit of diversity represented. We are from the Midwest but have moved around and live about 10 hours away now. I travel to the Bay Area frequently. I think she would fit it just fine! Weather in Ohio can feel damp and cold a lot in the early / late winter and feels a lot like SF proper to me (I find it chilly when I visit!).
I will PM both of you to see if you have any other questions that I can answer for you specifically about Nursing or about Xavier in general.
I was accepted to Xavier in October with a great merit scholarship, and I just applied to the Williams College of Business Smith Scholars program. Does anyone know when they send out notifications of acceptance for their honors programs?
No, Iām not sure when they send out acceptances for Honors. Maybe check some of the previous Xavier class years (Xavier 2023 or previous) to see if anyone posted that info from years past. The release dates do change but you might be able to get a general idea!
Anyone apply right on Nov 1st who hasnāt heard anything yet?
My son applied Oct 14 and still waiting for a decision. The portal shows a āstatus updateā link to a letter dated Nov. 8, it reads his application is currently being reviewed.
Thank you Mom2zags! That makes me feel better. I know a bunch of kids who applied in September and have already heard back. I figured that they got a lot of applications mid Oct up to Nov 1st. His portal also states Nov 8th, under review. Hopefully soon!
My kiddoās acceptance came last weekāand we are also from out of state-Washington. We visited this summer and my daughter fell in love with the feel of the campus. The generous merit makes it comparable to instate schools that give very little merit here. The weather this summer was lovely, and looking at the weather app, Cincinnati seems somewhat comparable to Seattle.
She hasnāt made a final decision yet, but I would be surprised if she wasnāt a Muskie August 17.
My Son received his acceptance into the Business School today. He was awarded $20K/year merit plus $5K for books. It definitely makes it comparable with instate schools for us, weāre in VA.
We visited in June and really liked the campus, there were many similarities to his current High School, which is also Jesuit. Both of us had a very good feeling about this college. Itāll be difficult to let this great opportunity pass by. But he does still have to wait for other decisions to come in.
My daughter was accepted to Xavierās honors scholars program yesterday. She was awarded $23k per year, plus books, when she was accepted to the university, and this honors program gives another $2k for study abroad. She hasnāt made a final decision yet, but Xavier is definitely in the mix. Their admissions people have been so nice and encouraging to her!
@Momofthree67 Congrats to your daughter! Was this the St. Xavier program?
Also, was this a separate acceptance from admissions, or did the information come with admissions? Iām curious about when all of the extra scholarship information will come out.
