So, I have had a yahoo mail account forever- at least 17 years. Apparently it’s an SBC global account, though I don’t even know what that is or remember having that. I want (need) to update my email password, but it keeps directing me to att email when I ask to change my password. I figured out how to login there at att, and changed that password for good measure, but there doesn’t seem to be ANY way to change the yahoo password, and there doesn’t seem to be any such thing as as sbc login at all- that just routes immediately back to att too. Can anyone help with advice for this? I don’t want to let my email die but I need to change the password or stop using it for things. I’m not very tech skilled so any advice helps- yahoo doesn’t seem to have any customer service either. Sigh.
I have had a yahoo email account, too, and never heard of att or sbc being a part of it. Are you trying to change the email on the yahoo email page or the main yahoo page?
I’m trying to change the password while in my yahoo email. It isn’t even an option I’m given, so I googled change yahoo mail password. The link takes me to a yahoo page, but once I enter my yahoo email address it automatically redirects to an att login page- and then I am back to the att account. I guess att and yahoo had merged for awhile and then unmerged in 2017 and there are still a bunch of issues left.
I had a Yahoo email account that merged with sbc long time ago when sbc became my internet provider. I moved and now att is my internet provider as I am no longer in the sbc region.
Changes made a few months back made it so that I could no longer access one of my sbc accounts while I could the other thru Yahoo mail. I am also now required to re-enter my att password every two weeks for the account that I can access.
I now have to use a separate email program ( I use Bluebird) to access my one account. At least I can access it and didn’t loose the account. Customer service thru Yahoo was no help in trying to figure out why one account works and the other doesn’t.
H actually still uses our sbcglobal email address as his primary. We had an issue similar to this a while back. I think I ended up calling the ATT customer service number and they were able to reset the password for me. Like you, I couldn’t do it over the internet. Good luck! It’s confusing. SBC got swallowed up by ATT who sold out to Frontier (in my area, anyway).
I’ve been trying to wean H off of this address onto gmail, but it’s a slow process.
When you log in using the att link (but your sbc email address) can you get in? You should be able to change your pw there.
No. When I’m taken to the att login the only login that works is an att one. Not the sbc global one. That one doesn’t work anywhere- it just shows up as an alias on my yahoo.
ETA if I input the sbc email there in att and say I lost my password, it tells me it isn’t a valid email address.
It seems like I had this problem a few years ago when our bellsouth email went to yahoo. I still have the bellsouth email but it is the yahoo platform. Google the issue- it seems like I solved it somehow and I do have separate logins for my ATT and the Yahoo email. I wonder if you went beyond the grace period or something.
Try changing your password on the main yahoo.com website page and see if that helps.
I don’t have that option at all.
Never mind, it probably won’t work.
I was able to play around and find a help link on my yahoo mail. It is on the lower right hand side on a page I have never been on before and I can’t figure out how I got there.
That doesn’t work for me. Apparently nothing works and I’m in the process of just giving up on my yahoo account altogether. Which really makes me mad.
I have an sbcglobal email account that I am slowly migrating away from. In all the years I’ve had the account, I’ve never been able to figure out how to change the password, which I really need to do because I believe it’s been breached. I hit the “Change Password” link and it tried to take me to the AT&T site, but just spun and spun and never got there. I think the answer is to call them and if they can’t help, force the issue and ditch it!
I no longer use my AT&T / SBC Global email, but I’ve learned through experience with other stuff that the AT&T website does not play nicely with the Chrome browser. So I’ve seen plenty of “spin and spin” - clearing all cookies can help, but I also found that what didn’t work in Chrome often worked quickly and easily in Internet Explorer.
So I went through this with my 89 year old neighbor. I am like his IT guy. Att no longer supports Yahoo ABC mail mail. Simple as that. I tried everything you did and called AT&T to no avail. Also both don’t play nice with Chrome
My solution was to convert him to Gmail. He’s happy now…
I use Gmail to get my yahoo account and it actually works better. At some point I will give up my Yahoo account. Too many spamming attacks etc
@Knowsstuff - ATT no longer supports yahoo “sbcglobal email”??
Just trying to follow along. I know we should change but it seems overwhelming to me! We have so many things connected to that email! How does one even start?
First call your ISP provider (internet provider) and see what they say.
Make a Gmail account. In Gmail you can bring over your yahoo mail or /and it will sync to it so you don’t lose anything.

It’s actually pretty simple.
If your getting rid of yahoo completely there is a way to send your contacts an email telling them this and giving them your new email account.
Does this need to be done on a computer? Because I don’t have an option in my gmail to import anything at all- I don’t have a computer so I’m on a phone. Wondering if that’s the problem there.
If they don’t play well with Chrome, try Mozilla, or Safari, or another browser.
If it doesn’t work well on your phone, try sorting it out with a desktop or laptop.
Actually, AT&T’s website is totally messed up. I still have internet with AT&T-- so I decided to login to see what would happen, and it wanted to send a text with a verification code – but the text was to a number that is not active and was never the primary number tied to my account. There was no alternative method of verification – for example, I was not offered the opportunity to answer security questions.
I was able to get in by doing a password reset — (using the “forgot password” function) and after resetting the password the first thing I did was update the phone for text verification… but I then logged out and tried to log back in – and the site was still using the incorrect number for verification.
That being said, changing the password for the web login account also resulted in a password change for the old @sbcglobal email. (I verified that via Google, which auto-checks that old email).
