Yale 2015 SCEA Hopefuls

Yeah, I’m still waiting for the interview, too. I live in one of the largest cities in the country, so you’d think they’d have enough interviewers… but you never know. All I can do is hope for the best.

T26E4 (and anyone who knows the answer)- I apologize if this question has been answered already, but if I was to be given an interview, would it had been regardless of whether Yale had received my test scores? I used the free score reports to send my SAT scores to Yale, and CollegeBoard said that the order would not be placed until 11/15 (b/c I can make edits to the score recipients and/or choose scores up until that date). I also took the my SAT Subject tests in November.

forblue: If I were you, I’d call Yale to find out if your file indeed is complete (i.e. with scores).

T26E4 - I checked my application status through my Eli account - my scores have not been received yet (won’t be sent out until the 15th b/c of free score report).

I guess what I’m basically looking to clarify is that until my file is complete, meaning Yale has received my scores…

a) The alumni interviewer in my areas will not have received my contact information and I will not be able to have an interview
b) I’ll have lesser priority for an interview
c) none of the above

I don’t know what level of “completeness” of your file it takes for your contact info to be sent to the local coordinators. Anything I would say would be an uninformed guess. I’m sorry.

I appreciate your response, T26E4. I understand that you cannot contact Yale for an interview, but do you think it would be an appropriate question to ask the admissions office?

My D received Eli Account quickly after submission, but no interview contact. We live in Minnesota. Is it appropriate to call since deadline is coming up for interviewers to have reports turned in? Her test scores, rank, GPA are all within parameters mentioned above.

forblue: I suppose a call to New Haven might be in order. Good luck straightening things up.

stillwatermom: you may be in one of those areas not covered by a local alum – or there may be only a few interviewers available. The alumni networks try to interview all the SCEA applicants but some definitely don’t get contacted. Best of luck to your family during this waiting time…

Can you explain this? Son also used the free score report to send his SAT scores to Yale and 3 other colleges. His SAT test was in May, the ELI account doesn’t have his SAT scores and it drives me crazy. He didn’t apply to 3 other colleges where he used the free score report option, but other colleges where he applied and we paid for the score report received them.

re: interviews - S submitted his EA application in early October. He got his ELI account e-mail on October 21, but got contacted by his interviewer around October 15th. Probably back then it was a slow season for interviewers.

T26E4 - I just got off the phone with a secretary at the admissions office. She said that it does not matter whether your application has received your scores and that the local alumni interviewers should have received my contact info regardless. I will just cross my fingers.

keylimepie - I actually do not understand why the score report will not be sent until 11/15. CB says that I have until that date to edit score recipients or choose what scores to be sent.

Just had my interview! And by “just,” I mean like 5 minutes ago (I’m sitting on the computer in the library where I had it). I thought it was good. Had a lot in common with the interviewer. I think I worried too much about it (like clothes-wise, and mental preparation-wise) because it was quite casual (and only around 30 minutes). He asked pretty standard questions, and I answered all of them really honestly and matter-of-factly, which was a surprise to me because I was like practicing long-winded responses to the “Why Yale?” question just an hour before. I thought that he really appreciated this aspect. All in all, it will definitely be a good mark on my app. He said that he is going to recommend me enthusiastically and went on to say how he saw a lot of himself in me. =D

^Awesome! That’s a really, really good sign. A good interview can only help you.

^Thanks so much! I hope your interview goes well, too! Just don’t worry too much about it like I did =P

^Too late. =) But I’ll try.

^^ Congrats on the great interview, mine is next week. How did you dress? Business casual?

yup, with tie

I can’t help but think our predicament right now is so similar to taking a test (I blame AP Physics B). We’ve already submitted our Scantrons and the end is so near in sight: a month to wait. On the other hand, RD applicants are still 2-3 pages from finishing the exam. For some of us, we’ll get the scores back by December 15th. For some of us, we won’t receive our scores till April 1st. And for some of us, we will be notified of our failing marks by December 15th.

Yeah, this waiting is definitely driving me insane and depriving me of peaceful sleep.

^Don’t think about it so much. Just keep yourself busy.

For example, you can work on other applications just in case. At least that’s what I’m doing, and it does help to not think too much about yale.

^Oh yes.

Working on other apps is lovely.
