oh god my class is crazy smart. too many ppl applying to ivies for my own safety ;)

@sd6 that’s totally the same as my school!

I think these next 13 days might kill me

@celestialteapot: I LOVE YOUR USERNAME :D

@perfectpixie, yes I do! If I get in I’m planning on auditioning for Yaledancers

o_O .

Hey…I feel kinda late to the game here! I know this is unrelated to the current group of posts, but I’ve been reading a lot of Yale SCEA threads, and it’s making me nervous! All this talk of hooks and “overly represented majorities” is beginning to kill my hope. start thinking i have a hook, but then my confidence starts to fall…
My grade is, in my opinion, not good. it’s not horrible, but compared to past and future classes it’s almost sad. Our top ten is amazing - higher than in recent years - but there’s a huge gap. my school has sent a kid to harvard almost every year, but they were minorities and athletes.

sorry, this was more whining than contributing to the lighthearted conversation of the thread
I just can’t wait 13 days! I’m not going to accomplish anything on 12/15

btw @quomodo & durufle: my school doesn’t offer latin, but I took it at camp a couple of years ago…illud est quomodo volvo :)

It’s minorities.

But yeah, I agree.

Alright, RANDOM question (to distract if you’d like to look at it that way?). But, how many of you guys can do the pencil flicky spinny thingy? Does anyone know what I’m talking about? After much deliberation I DID decide this was the only way I could describe it. My friend taught me how to do it like a week ago and it is ALL I can do in my classes. It’s so addicting. Pencil spinning is becoming a sort of sport at my school. It’s quite a good distracter. haha :)

^ YES. That is how I kept myself awake in chemistry. I had the most boring teacher ever, so instead of sleeping, I taught myself how to spin my pencil. It took the whole semester to get it right, and I undoubtedly annoyed the crap out of everyone around me because I dropped my pencil so many times. But I’m a pro at it now. Being in drumline, I do it with mallets and drumsticks all the time too. I’m basically the coolest person ever.

Is it really Overly represented minorities? Or Majorities? Or BOTH?

'cause minorities works for asians, but dont you need to say majority for white people?

Its just always bothered me…

“overrepresented majorities” wouldn’t make sense: Whites are the only majority and are not overrepresented.

hahahahaha. It’s the best. My english teacher hates me and my friends because that is all we do in her class. While she’s lecturing and everything. and none of us are good at it at all yet so our pencils fly everywhere and hit each other and everything. They end up at the front of the room while she’s talking and we’ll just stand up and go get them and she’ll just stop talking and stare at us. We’re getting more advanced now and trying to compete against each other with double spins and bad hand spins and everything. Do you have any special tricks? we need ideas. Have you ever seen the Honda commercial with the pen spinning guy?

It’s “over represented minorities”, mainly referring to Asian Americans. White people aren’t considered "ORM"s since they’re not a minority.

^Over-represented minority. White kids (majority) are generally just considered neutral.

Ahh I hate being an ORM. More reason to worry.

But whatever. I just realized I have 30 days till my pre boards! Yikes. I feel old. And I have soooooo much studying to do! And only 90 days till my boards. gulp and then schools over. :(

So, what gifts are you guys giving/wanting over Christmas?? (if you celebrate it)

I just asked for an electric razor. And money. But honestly, if I get in on the 15th, that’s all the present I need. Especially since we might not get great FA…

I thought Yale was generous with FA?

Yeah, I think Yale is generous with FA.
I really couldn’t think of anything I wanted over Christmas. Other than a laptop, which I’ll be getting around when I graduate… and Yale, of course, but which SCEAer wouldn’t want that?
