Yale Class of 2020 applicants

Hi! Deferred too, which really sucks right now but I mean they considered me which is cool! I was wondering if anyone else was from the UK?! And where else are people applying now?

@theleenbean That’s an interesting thought. How exactly would I send such a letter? And to who? My high school just has an average counseling office so I’m not sure who to turn to for advice.

Accepted this year is up by about 1% from last year, deferral down a few percentage points I believe. But pretty consistent overall.

@kuriosmind @theleen Thanks for the advice!

@APScholar18 i agree, numbers mean too much

@Kasami I think you send it to Yale yourself, but you can ask your guidance counsellor to read it over and make sure its appropriate.

When do you guys think is the latest one should send the letter expressing interest for it to be considered?

I applied SCEA and did not get an interview. I was just deferred. Is it possible to get an interview that will be considered in the next round? Do I need to express interest?

@Kasami I don’t know the details either, but I can ask tomorrow. I believe it was addressed to the regional admissions people. My English teacher showed it to my class last year as a sample (it was written by one of her former students).

still no email :-/

@16elir Yes it’s possible that they would want to know more about you to make their decisions for RD and request an interview with you in the coming months. I don’t think sending the letter expressing interest will help you get an interview, but it will let them know that Yale is still you top choice and you will attend it over other schools if accepted.

@theleenbean @kuriosmind Thanks for the input. If anyone finds out about proper procedure it’d be awesome if you could let me know. Thanks!

@16elir Is there a reason you don’t just check the site yourself? Why wait for an email? (I’m over here from the Princeton Thread so if it’s a Yale-specific thing to force you to wait for an email I wouldn’t privy to that)

I found this article on what to include in your letter of continued interest: http://www.collegeconfidential.com/deferral/
I hope you guys find this helpful!

@CautiousOptimist I did check the site (deferred), I’m just curious why no email has been sent yet.

I never got an email, just check the portal it will definitely be up. I checked my portal at 5PM exactly and it was up!

I GOT IN!!!

The whole process of Ivy League admissions is pretty inequitable but it is what it is. They want basically 2300+ SAT, legacy, extreme hook, URM status…etc.

Anyone do the math and realize that the percentage of rejections actually went up a few percentage points, while deferrals dropped a bit this year? I wonder if that’ll be a continuous trend.

I think it’s be too painful for me to follow Yale on instagram and tumblr now… :frowning: Anyone else feeling the same way?

Deferred

Do you think there’s any sort of differentiating of people who are deferred? Like when RD decisions are being made, are there certain people marked with ā€œalmost accepted but notā€ or comments attached that were made previously? Or an indication of at what point the applicant was deferred? (e.g. if the applicant made it to committee, etc.)
