@Kasami Maybe Yale wants to reach Stanford level deferral rates! ;))
@kuriosmind I feel ya. It just sucks to know that you’re not in that top 17%.
^ Stanford defers only around 10%. They reject 80% or so of REA outright.
@theleenbean I’m sure the deferred pool includes those who were “almost accepted” and “nearly rejected”, but I think Yale means it when they say they will reread all the applications of those who were deferred, so there are no different “tiers” of deferrals. If your application is strong then you will stand a good chance during RD
I’d like to think I made it to the committee because I had a last minute interview with the chair of my region, but who knows, maybe they just felt bad for me.
Deferred.
@theleenbean WE ARE THE 53%!
Hey guys! I’ve been lurking the SCEA thread for some time, but thought I’d join in on this one since I’m applying RD. Looking forward to getting to know some of you!
Things I would change: my interview, my SAT I score (just wish it were 30 points higher – I know it’d make little difference, but the number just looks a lot better), and the ending of my Yale supplement. At least I can change the last one for my RD schools.
Deferred applicants don’t get another shot at an interview, right?
@glasshours from reading past threads, deferred applicants can get asked to interview again if the first one was inconclusive, but admissions officers will most likely make their decisions based on the first interview report. Two people I know just got into Yale. I’m happy, but I can’t help comparing myself to them :-S
Honestly after going through the anxiety, I wish I could be an admissions officer just so I finally get some closure and know how they decide between applicants. Forever wishing the process wasn’t so secretive. Transparency would be nice.
Kiddo officially accepted today.
Good luck to those of you deferred and keep the faith. Know that you are all worthy and there is a great place for you!
I was referred too. Super stressful, disappointing, and frustrating!
hey everyone! got deferred today and I’m actually pretty excited about it considering Yale was never one of my top pics and I hardly proofread my common app before submitting…oops! I’m just hoping that whatever Yale sees in me to avoid giving an outright rejection, my first choice school sees as well! UNC is my top but I’m OOS so hopefully this means I’m worth a little more than I tend to think! best of luck to everyone (:
hey guys, joining here, got deferral from wharton and accepted into a few of my back up schools
what majors are you considering?
@teenagecrime Welcome! Best of luck with Wharton and your other RD schools! I’m considering political science or economics. You?
Who else is deferred??
@ZoraaaL Almost everyone on this thread
but we still have a chance in RD!
Around what percent does Yale defer???
@kuriosmind okay… I read from the previous post that 56% got deferred? Really?.. Still good news though:) Still have a chance!
@ZoraaaL Actually 53% got deferred. Are you a deferred applicant? If you are, you can check this year’s admissions statistics from your portal. They accepted 17% and rejected 30%.
