Yale Class of 2028 Official Thread

my apologies for this very weirdly framed question, i am going to do the best i can with this LOL

but is receiving finalist status for a extremely selective school-scholarship program (like Emory’s woodruff scholar program) on par with qualifications typically seen in a student accepted to Yale or other Ivies? (feel free to answer if you have experience or knowledge on this)

It’s like you will hear everywhere- it depends on the year. Many many students are qualified, and it depends on what they are looking for that year for that class. My DD c/o 2020 received Emory scholarship and was rejected from Yale but found her home at Vanderbilt!

I’m going to say yes, but that it is also on par with qualifications for students who are not accepted. That is the essential issue with hyperselective schools like Yale, they will end up rejecting many people with extremely high qualifications.

I note, for example, that I previously reported a UNC Morehead-Cain winner at our HS was deferred by Yale REA. He may still be accepted, but the fact he was not simply accepted tells you how Yale is willing to not accept people with that level of qualifications.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the potential racial breakdown of yale28? What efforts is Yale making to expand diversity and outreach?

You can start with the profiles of the classes of 2027 and 2026 here. chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://admissions.yale.edu/sites/default/files/2027classprofileweb.pdf chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://admissions.yale.edu/sites/default/files/2026profileweb.pdf

The SCOTUS decision on affirmative action will likely change the makeup, but I suspect it won’t be a huge swing that had happened in California as Yale and others will use “context” to maintain some level of diversity. Yale has hired 2 new full time professionals to increase outreach to underserved communities through both direct outreach and through local organizations, so it has made a real monetary and resource commitment to maintain diversity.

To add to the above, the converse is also true. My D24 received neither the Emory nor Vanderbilt scholarships – but was accepted REA to Princeton. You never know what will strike a particular AO…

For family reasons, my midwest student has been unable to visit out-of-state campuses, including a few within a 2 hour drive of BDL. We are planning to fly in on Thursday Mar 28 and the next day drive wherever good news leads us. If there’s no good news at all, we will have a mini vacation instead. We need to return home on Sunday. Any suggestions for hotels or restaurants near Yale if fortunate?

Edited to add: Convenience, proximity and accessibility (ADA) are the most important considerations for us.

have RD applicants in the past/for this cycle gotten interview invites past mid-march? have been waiting for one myself and a friend who got in REA has assured me they may still come bc they received an interview invite 1 week before REA decisions release. trying not to be anxious and expect for an interview at all but just curious since it’s now mid-march. saw the previous comment about “bubble cases” but im an intl student in a pretty large city and have heard very very few invites going out for RD (basically exclusive to 1 school).

My son and his friends had lunch at Sherkaan Indian Street Food (Yale) and they really enjoyed the food. We are planning to do the same thing (impromptu trip depending on results) and it really could be anywhere on the East Coast :hugs:. Have a great trip!

I dream about this Indian restaurant. We ate there last summer. Wonderful smells emanate as you exit the bookstore. Delicious & Relaxing.

They’re within a couple blocks of each other.

There are a lot of restaurants near Yale these days. Some consider it a must to try at least one of the Big Three New Haven-style pizza places (Sally’s, Pepe’s, or Modern). Or you can go to Yorkside, and try the pizza students actually eat the most . . . .

In terms of hotels, there are some very nice (usually somewhat pricey) hotels in older buildings, but I like to mention the Cambria. It is not as fancy but it is affordable and more modern, and that includes the sort of standard accessibility features you would expect these days:

Yorkside seems like the best pizza option for the glimpse into student life we are seeking. I truly appreciate the thoughtful consideration behind the Cambria recommendation. Thank you!

I have a portal astrology theory. Go to the yale admitted student page. Try to join the discord. They will ask you to verify and you will need to login to your admission portal. If your portal says something other than “this is only for admitted students” you are in!

Let me know if it worked for you.

this doesn’t work until you get an acceptance letter in your portal or a likely. this isn’t a new theory and definitely does not work please don’t believe this LMAO

This is just a discord signup, how does it connect to Yale?

bc they are saying that in the verification process to join the discord, if you are supposedly “admitted” it would show that and let you in the discord. this DOES NOT work please don’t do this.

It should work, if you have an acceptance. Cause it verifies, anyone in RD able to get access. Make sure you clik on the link in the bottom … not the one in the right, that one does not verify. Curious if decisions are already linked. I got the error, did it work for anyone from RD?
