Yale Class of 2028 Official Thread

Wow, congratulations!

For certain colleges like MIT it might be too late but I don’t see a problem with updating.

Did you win the Princeton prize or certificate? Which region? If it is prize then it is worth updating.

Those seem significant enough to me you might as well give it a shot.

Try sending it, they may be in committee this week and next. So may help

Hi! Do you think it might still be possible to get any interview request? I mean, it is extremely late to me but… if you say they are supposedly going to conduct meetings this week. I am an international applicant and was rejected last year so not having an interview seems to be a bad sign for me. Had a Stanford interview though

Also, given that in the Yale podcast the admission office said that now interviews were given after “an initial selection,” do you think that if I did not get one (taking into account I am an international applicant from Spain) means that I did not pass the initial round? Then, sending new updates (Yale diplomas for Coursera courses) will not be viewed or taken into account for my application because I have not made it to the committee?

We have discussed this quite a bit in a couple Yale threads. The basic problem is there are two different scenarios in which you might not get a Yale interview:

(1) You didn’t pass the initial screen;

(2) You passed the initial screen and they were satisfied from your written application that you would be a good fit for Yale such that they did not prioritize you for an interview.

(1) would be bad news, (2) would be good news (although it doesn’t mean you are admitted, it just means you are competitive). And you don’t know which happened, so it all means . . . pretty much nothing.

Thanks !! Still, do you think that updating the diplomas I have gotten with the Yale Coursera courses could still be viewed as part of my candidacy? I mean, it is not much of a thing but would you still try to send updates on these or other awards I have won lately? Also, I am trying to find information on interviews for international applicants, does anyone have a deeper insight on this?

So personally, I see the point of Coursera to be personal enrichment and not so much as a credential, and generally speaking Yale Admissions seemed to be discouraging updates which were just “more of the same” sort of activities and awards versus really new things.

But that said, if you want to try a (brief) update I doubt it will really hurt. The worst that will likely happen is it will not make a difference.

The interviewing period is over except possibly for some special “bubble” cases. I’d send in your updates. While it may not move the needle, I don’t see any downside.

What are bubble cases?

Those the AO’s are debating in committee and have not been put firmly in either the “yes” or “no” pile.

What if you were deferred but had an interview? Can you dissect that?

Is it leaning towards yes or no since they made the efforts to schedule an interview?

certificate!!! but it was at-large national committee, so way harder to win and i didn’t do anything super duper crazy, just tried to make classical music in my spaces and communities more inclusive and accessible

I will send an update with both nyo-usa (which is bigger) and the prize certificate (even tho it’s not the main prize bc i feel like it would contextualize the work stated in my application). thanks!

Congratulations on your son’s acceptance at Stanford and the full ride. That’s awesome!

Yeah, I am one of the people who thinks it is nice to withdraw if you know you wouldn’t attend if admitted–but you have to know! I see zero issue if there is a reasonable chance you might still seriously consider a Yale offer.

No way to know. Even if it is a late interview, it means they have made no decision yet.
