Yale Class of 2028 Official Thread

Sorry, no, that wasn’t us. D23 was waitlisted at Columbia. No likely letter.

Oh. … but your D23 got in princeton. Right?

Yes, she’s at Princeton.

sorry, missed your question earlier… it was around March 1st.

If you are speaking about my response, I may have replied to the wrong person mistakenly but it is very good advice to contact the office if you think something is wrong with your fin aid info so you can get your aid award on time. I am also not speaking from a place of curiosity but as a Yale parent. I feel everyone here is trying to help each other through a process that can be tough and confusing.

I don’t think I understand what I have to from your response. The above-mentioned questions asked about the portal not having IDOC and an IDOC issue at Columbia. Both of them are not quite related to you.

I am sometimes dumbfounded by the sudden replies to me.

this is what I am talking about which is not an IDOC question

Oh. I got it
I am sometimes discouraged when someone seems to get in before results come out, but there is no reason to attack the person’s positive sign. Some comments in this community are really sarcastic, and I am afraid of asking something here because of that. Reddit students think parents in CC are weird for this reason. We are not all admissions experts, so we don’t know the actual process. We can share, but I can’t hear back for my question from someone who disappeared after sarcastic criticism by another. I just don’t like it. Also, even if you or your child got into a top school, you may not know about the admission process. So, we can share opinions in the community without being based on facts.

Interesting to read the portal astrology posts from past admission cycles. I don’t put much stock in them but reading about them does pass some time during this long wait! If anything they add some excitement (good and bad) to an already suspenseful wait situation! Wishing everyone’s kiddos the best! 3 weeks to go!

Portal astrology can be a fun way to pass the time, I just hope no one takes it seriously where they set themselves up for disappointment or creates extra stress. With its years of experience, can you really assume the Yale AO will tip their hand through some glitch in the portal?

Here, I will make a prediction, “Any applicant who is a pet owner will be rejected.” I’ll be right about 96% of the time, which I am confident will have a higher accuracy rate than any portal astrology that indicates acceptance.

spot on :grinning:

This waiting game is stressful. Even though we are certain our student will bloom wherever she is planted and she has wonderful safety options, it is tempting to look for a crystal ball.

As we wait, I’d love to hear more about what makes Yale so special, if anyone would like to share. Due to family medical circumstances, our student hasn’t been able to visit any out of state campuses yet and will do so only if admitted. Her Spring break is the last week of March, so we will have to make travel plans at the very last minute if she receives good news.

Wishing the best to all parents and applicants.

I will submit as my entry that people who get their notifications from Yale on days ending with “Y” are usually rejected.

The residential college system really fosters a small college feel with all of its social benefits but with all the advantages and resources of a world class research university. The social benefits are that you live within a community of 400-500 students that are a cross section of Yale for 3 or 4 years, 100-150 that are your classmates. You eat together and can engage in various other activities (sports, music, theater) at a sub university level. This helps create bonds that often extend well beyond graduation. There are about a dozen of us who have an annual “boys”’ long weekend together each year, and we have massive family vacations together every 2/3 years. This is not uncommon among alums.

So I do like to point out they are all just schools. Good schools, but still schools. And almost always, any pros they share are shared among many other schools.

However, I think in practical terms, there are some pros of Yale–again shared–which are particularly notable.

One is just the very robust four-year residential college system. I really think it is basically just Yale and Rice that does it quite like that, and it is the closest thing you can get to the Oxbridge constituent college model in the US. It is also incredibly expensive to pull off, which is why only a couple relatively small and relatively wealthy colleges are doing it. And not everyone actually really cares much. But for people who are into it, I think it is a distinctive approach.

This is less distinctive, but still notable–Yale among its commonly-cited peers remains relatively stronger in classical liberal arts and sciences than in tech/business stuff, and also relatively undergrad focused. And in fact if you are particularly interested in humanities, and isolating the college from the grad programs, I think you can make an argument it is the best college for that in the world. I can hear the Oxbridge fans gasping, but I really do not think they do undergrad quite as well. And I think some others in the US are closer calls, but I personally feel the same way about them–either they do not have the same breadth and depth in humanities, or they are at least a bit less undergrad focused, or both.

Anyway, that’s my two cents. Lots of other pros about Yale it shares with many colleges, but I see those two things as the strongest of their pros.

So excited that D24 got her first yes yesterday - as parent what i most loved was the confetti; we def don’t get that from our UK schools! I now understand those College Reaction videos…we may even be planning one…although more likely to be me and the dog reacting as D is def not up for it

What does an interview request this late mean? Waitlist?

Yes I think. They should do committee next week and following and finalize lists by 22nd with minor changes afterwards

hello! i recently received some substantial awards (national youth orchestra usa carnegie hall selection and princeton prize in race relations certificate) is it too late to update my application? i just received notice for princeton award today, will these still be considered? i feel like they will add depth to my application. thanks
