Yale Class of 2028 Official Thread

It was an email directly from the interviewer’s personal email. Not Yale.

Good to know, thank you.

Yes, that’s good news! As long as they are in deferral it means continued interest. I know of a case where someone got deferrals from two schools (RA, ED) and eventually got accepted even though they had not built a hospital in Ghana, delivered a TED talk, solved the climate crisis etc etc. Deferral acceptance rate is higher than RD usually. Congrats on this great achievement! and good luck

This is wonderful news! All the best.

We are not even sure if it is good or neutral. Because we read somewhere that when they are sure to take you, they will not give an interview. For borderline students, they want to check if everything is good.

There was a long discussion in the early thread if you are interested, but at a high level, the main takeaway is it has almost no predictive value.

But it is another opportunity to make your case, so from that standpoint it can be seen as a welcome opportunity.

I totally agree with this stance! I couldn’t have said it better. Makes me feel good as well.

My RD also received an invitation for an interview. Does anyone have any insights on questions that have been asked in previous interviews and best ways to prepare? He’s had a few interviews, so he’s had some practice, but this one is very important to him.

I’d also suggest the discussion in the EA thread for interview preparation.

My son said his Yale interview was more conversational and about himself than some other interviewers that focused on the college at hand. His first question was why biochemistry/why major, but then his interviewer launched into questions about the specific experiences he talked about earlier, like research projects and programs. He then asked him about his favorite extracurricular activity. Afterward, the most interesting question he asked was about if he could design a room in a museum, what would it be about. He then asked about any situations that expanded his perspective. He also asked him about anything else not on his application that he’d like the committee to know about, and then questions my son had for him. His tip is to know the activities you plan to discuss very well, as the Yale interview he says is much more philosophical and about the depth of your activities rather than a more question-answer then next question interview.

My son can answer if you have another questions about the interview. The interview lasted for 45 minutes in an informal setting.

Thank you so much! This is very helpful.

My pleasure! My son also said that he is willing to answer any questions you may have about the Yale interview. He said by far, Yale interview was the easiest as he could connect with the interviewer as a person. So tell your son to be relaxed and confident.

International here. Anybody know what the deadline would be for interviews?

Appled RD to Yale but haven’t gotten an interview yet. The website says that there have been successful applicants who never received interviews. I don’t know how true this is because I think if you got an interview, you are more likely to get in.
Does anyone know of people who got into Yale without an interview?

That is wrong. I read the reddit. Most got interviews were deferred or rejected. Non - interviews most likely got in so far though my child interviewed :frowning:

Was this for ED? Thanks for your response.

Both.

My D24 got deferred without an interview for her SCEA, and still no interview till now. Not sure what is happening.
