I am also first for ivy applications. However i heard that if EA round was completed, deferred application doesn’t get interview in RD round. I think it is true.
Thanks. Good to know it and good luck with your application!
The interview went well! Thanks so much for the tips! Fingers crossed for both of our kids!
Great! Good luck to both kids.

I would think if the candidate has some very solid achievements and the references are also good, there is no need to have an interview, except to leave a good impression of the university so the candidate would select Yale. Just my guess. But this is especially true during the peak of Covid.
Same question here! Which country are you from??
My DS didn’t get an interview for his RD application. Although in our region, there aren’t many Yale alumni. Or probably my DS went for YYGS program last summer (2023).
My DS also didn’t get interview yet.
My twins are applying, one had his interview last week, and the second one is having his interview this coming weekend. The timing could be wildly different.
My DS also did YYGS last summer and did have an interview. We have a pretty active alumni group even though we are in the West, so there may be more interviewer availability here. I don’t know that the interview is necessarily a good sign, so I wouldn’t take lack of an interview as a bad one.
If you are preparing for an interview:
-
Try your best to relax, have a good sleep beforehand, and just be yourself.
-
Read the posts by BKSquared (on Y interviews, incl. in previous years).
-
In most cases, (whether you have an interview or not), it will probably not change the outcome. So it is best to enjoy it and ask any questions you have.
I hope this helps.
Hello Everyone. Guessing this coming week and maybe the week after are the weeks where Yale is calling applicants with a likely letter message. I’m just going off what has been posted over the last couple of years about likely letters. Seems always early to mid-February. Also, I assume only RD will get that call, and SCEA won’t. I never read anywhere that a SCEA would have gotten a likely letter call. We are defered SCEA and no interview for us during SCEA or RD.
You are right. SCEA won’t get a likely from what I have gathered. Guess it’s time to move off the deferred train and focus on alternatives. Good luck!
Do you think that one student from same high school got in already as early, there is no chance to be accepted because of diversity? One student in our school who has very severe ADHD , in under representative group , got in early . I think we have no chance anymore.
They have said very clearly on the podcast that they do not have quotas for high schools. Another student getting in from the same high school will not impact your student’s application.
DS is our first child applying to college, so we’re new to this whole process. Do most applicants who are likely to be admitted receive likely letters/calls? Or just a small percentage of those applicants?
Only a small percentage of eventual admits receive likely letters.
That was my understanding based on the research I’ve done. Thank you for confirming.
I note your research is probably no less reliable than mine, but based on the numbers of reports of likely letters versus admissions offers, it seems pretty clear that is in fact true.
