Do you think reinstating test scores will have an impact on the admissions of test optional applicants this cycle? Probably scrutinized more as it is the last test optional class?
No, with the understanding it was already de facto harder to get into Yale unhooked without high test scores. But I donāt think they are now going to change their models/policies for this cycle.
I think TO apps were already being scrutinized more. I think this is part of the issue⦠it is harder for AOs to check the academic box and move on when there is no āconfirmingā test score.
Yeah, on one of these latest podcasts, I think they said it was 6% admission rate for test submitted, 2% for test optional. They explained further they did their best to identify alternative ways of confirming academic qualification, but in at least some common cases it was not really possible to do that without test scores. And they also explained they had really struggled with how to communicate all this in the context of a test optional policy.
But I think part of what this all implies is this is not so much a change in how they are planning to evaluate applications. They were already largely doing what they wanted to do, they just didnāt think it was working out well for various test optional applicants.
Thank you! My child enjoyed the dialogue and left smiling with a highly favorable impression of her interviewer. It was a naturally-flowing, unstructured conversation that lasted a little over an hour.
a little nervous about my interview tomorrow, so this is nice to hear
Interview this late itself is a good news I feel.
I hope you have a wonderful conversation! Consider it an opportunity to gain some additional information about Yale. I know it can seem daunting, but keep in mind that your interviewer was once an applicant and is someone who finds value in spending time talking with prospective students. All the best!
My question: some colleges get idoc for all applications . Yale is one of them. In previous years, some parents say their financial portal date was changed, their docs are downloaded in February 22 rd ,or march someday. I really donāt understand that changing date is important ? If the date isnāt changed, that means our docs from idoc are not reviewed or downloaded by financialaidoffice.?. I donāt understand because all posts in any colleges forum talked about date changes. Please anyone explain.
I am sorry if these questions have been asked before. Does anybody have thoughts about what to wear for an interview? How much does the interviewer know about your application and your background/extracurriculars?
If you ask about interview,
For the interview, my child connected with interviewers via Zoom. Despite the interviewers being from Duke, Harvard, and Yale, we opted for Zoom. Personally, I believe a collared shirt looks more professional than a round-neck one. The interviewers didnāt have access to your resume beforehand, but some requested it before interview. To streamline the process, consider emailing a brief self-description before the interview to make the most of the limited time available.
- some interviewer asked about extracurricular during interview.
The interviewers said that they had to send interview note to admission office within 2 days after interview.
Thank you!!
Depends where the interview is conducted. I do mine at Starbucks, so anything that is comfortable for you is fine (except maybe t-shirts). If the interview is in an office, you might consider something more formal, at least business casual.
We (Yale) only receive your name, your HS and your indicated major if that was in your app. We are told not to ask for a resume. I would not want a summary. Part of my eval is how the interviewee conducts themselves in a free flowing conversation.
Does an interview this late mean something?
Were you a deferred to interview? Definitely seems good to me and first Iāve heard of, but of course we all know it can got either way with or without. Good luck!!
NošI was deferred but I had my interview before ea results came out, my friend had one yesterday though so I was just wondering
The last scheduled due date for interview reports is March 6. I would say anything scheduled after that date means they are looking specifically at something, so it is likely the applicant is on some bubble. It is not, however, a guarantee of anything.
Good luck to you all the same! My son has one this weekend for another school, the lateness isnāt comforting to me.
Thatās an interesting Yale insight.
For my daughterās Harvard interview, a pre-interview summary form was required. So, for the interviewerās ease of reference, upon arrival she shared a printed copy of the form and her transcript.
Given no summary had been requested for her Yale, she tucked a copy of her transcript in her pocket, ājust in caseā. She ultimately elected to not share it during as the conversation was flowing naturally.
She truly enjoyed both interviews and it was interesting for her to experience different approaches.
Best wishes to all interviewees!
