One of my twin sons got an interview invitation today . Both of my sons applied and have similar stats. Hope that my other son gets one too. Is the interview evaluative?

I think so. Yale only offers interviews to around 20% of its class. I’ve heard sayings that not getting an interview for Yale may mean an auto-admit or auto-reject

Thank you for your reply. My other twin just got the interview invite from Yale, too. So excited.

Any internationals with an interview yet?

My son, international applicant, applied in the SCEA round and was interviewed and subsequently deferred to the RD round.

I am an alumni interviewer for Yale. Just got my interviewees assigned and sent out invitations earlier this week. I can say the following:

  • Not getting invited to interview is not an indication of rejection; candidates are regularly admitted without being invited to interview.
  • Interview reports are substantive and are reviewed by the admissions committee.

We’re told the interview report has limited influence on the admissions decision, and my personal experience aligns with that. Applicants should look at it as an additional chance to underline their strengths and the themes of their application.

Nice!

Not yet for me. Did you do InitialView?

Nope. I read somewhere it’s just extra and won’t help much since Yale conducts interviews anyway

Hey! Thank you for being here and helping out; I have a couple of questions if you don’t mind answering them, lol.

  1. When should I stop expecting a Yale interview? How long do they go on for?
  2. What regions (international) does Yale’s ASC cover for interviews?

Can’t comment on Internationals, but I have done domestic interviews as late as early March. The larger batches are in Jan/Feb.

Yale covers every region. Non US interviews are often done virtually.

At this point, I would try to take your mind off interviews. Getting an interview is no guarantee of admission. In fact most interviewees are denied (2,200 ± spots, 9k interviews). Not getting an interview is also not a guarantee of denial.

Not getting an interview, if not denied, means you were a shoo-in, which I find hard to believe I am lol. So I’m really hoping I land one in the coming days.

Hey! Question here: when do interviews start to peak during admissions season? Does February have the highest number of interviews? Also, idk if you can answer, but when are your reports due? I haven’t received an interview from alumni, which, as an international, is a sure sign of rejection if I don’t get it by the start of March.

Interviews are usually done through Feb. Report deadlines are given when interviews assigned.

News on Yale College increasing enrollment.

Reddit has a number of folks who have received likely letters. Highly unusual to get one, but thought I would freak us all out.

It will be interesting to see what yield assumptions will be applied. Last year they admitted 2,146.
