@BKSquared Thank you as always for your responses. We’re in GA and S25 didn’t get an interview yet. I am assuming he isn’t getting one. So, I am asking the question here… do you know if the additonal 100 students they’re adding this year is across all majors or just STEM? I know Yale was sending more likely letters to STEM kids when D23 applied.
I don’t know for sure, but since Yale doesn’t admit by major, I don’t think the additional admits are all going to be STEM types.
Article about Yale’s Likely Letters:
Is Yale still sending out likely letters or finished sending?
That would be interesting to know. International student, here
Any interviews still going on?
Yes, a friend received one today
Guys my counselor was in contact with some colleges including Harvard and Yale.
They asked for his preferred candidates from our school and he sent me as the first preference.
Is that normal?
Do colleges usually do that
It was on email
Yale even replied saying they’ll definitely consider this
That’s really odd…that would be a serious conflict of interest between the school and the college…does your counselor not send recommendations? Also are you a feeder school? This seems odd, and even odder that your counselor would tell you this
No not a feeder school. I am also confused
I am an intl student. This hasn’t happened before
Idk what’s this
Maybe I misunderstood what he meant
But it was along those lines
So idk
Good morning @BKSquared, hope your day is going well. Quick question for you. From your years of experience as an interviewer, do you think the odds of someone getting accepted with an interview is the same as without? My son didn’t get an interview request and wondering if his chances are now even lower. I know the odds are extremely low either way. The class valedictorian from his school last year got accepted at Yale.

No legacy. No hooks.
I would say getting an interview lets you know that you have at least made 1 or more cuts. Obviously can’t speak for the AO, but with your kid’s stats and achievements, pretty sure he made the first cut. The question is if his information is complete enough that the AO’s don’t need an interview in which case his chances are the same as any highly qualified candidate.
He has been accepted into some pretty good programs, so he really should think getting into YSP as gravy.
Thanks @BKSquared. I hope his application was complete enough He had an interview with a Princeton Alumni in the EA round, but no interviews for Yale or Stanford in the RD round. That had us a little concerned.
I feel like I am in a similar situation, accepted into UMich, USC, UVA, and Georgetown SFS, so I feel that I am competitive enough for an interview but I haven’t gotten one yet
At least for Stanford, can get accepted w/o an interview—so don’t worry. My eldest DD got into Stanford w/o interview, and this year,I know one got in during REA w/o interview. So at least for Stanford, the interview isn’t something to stress about.
However, for Yale, I don’t know well. There’s still time left, so I hope your DD receive an invite!
Did your child only apply for 5 schools? Seems a little less considering the fierce competitiveness today.
Yep, S25 applied to only 5. D23 applied to 19. Big difference
How worried should I be in the event that I haven’t been reached out to for an interview? I did update the office of admissions that I was in India due to a family emergency, and arrived back recently. Is it worth sending them an email to let them know I am back and restarting my studies now?
I’d like to thank you very much in advance for any case if you could read my message here. I wonder if you have any news about the Yale interviews in the UK? My cousin is an international student in London. We haven’t heard any news of interview invitations from Yale to his school and some of his other friends. Do you think at this time there is still possibility of receiving interview invitation from Yale? And does Yale send invitations to the UK according to different regions or different nationalities because there are lots of Chinese and Indian students there? Oh, my cousin got interviews from Princeton and Harvard just several days after he submitting his applications on the day of deadline and has done them quite well. Lots of thanks to you again. Wish you a very lovely day.
My D25 didn’t get an interview and was then rejected REA round. Can’t speak to international, but for US based people, my take on it is that YES getting the interview is a sign that your chances have improved compared to baseline and not getting the interview is a sign they have decreased. I definitely don’t know by how much but my best guess is something like if x% is the standard admission rate, maybe you’re now close to 2x% chance if interviewed and down near 1/2x% chance if not. I’m guessing those numbers based on what I know from D’s school the last couple of years and a poll I saw on reddit (I think it was reddit) once but now cannot find and the anecdotal reports of interviewers about how many people they interview that don’t get in.
