@BKSquared Are Yale interviews done before committee or during committee?
some ivy portals have them listed for internationals while others dont
The vast majority are prior so that the Committee will have a complete file. I guess there could be a situation where someone is on the bubble after Committee and they decide to do an expedited interview before making a final decision.
No sense worrying about something that is out of your control. The decisions come out this week in any case. Expect a ânoâ and be surprised and elated for a âyesâ.
Best of luck.
so if i dont have a interview as intl am i not getting in ?
Not necessarily. Not getting an interview means Yale had all the information it needed to make a decision, yes or no.
But wouldnât they want to interview people they are interested in? Statistically, more admits have had an interview. But that could also mean more admits were borderline, which makes sense, since most people would not be an auto-admit (very very qualified that they admit you without an interview)
Getting an interview means the applicant is at least in the running and has passed the first screen (Yale does a first screen as per its podcast). About 9,000 interviews are done each year for about 2,100 spots, many of which are taken by athletes, development admits and the super qualified âno brainersâ. There are students who get in without an interview because the AO believes they have all the information they need for a âyesâ, but I agree, probably not a huge number.
Not getting and interview and getting accepted does not mean the student is an âauto admitâ there is no such thing at a school like Yale. It simply means they had enough info on you to make a decision without an additional reference point (interview).
I am praying for all the people that didnât get interviews (including me); that they just simply didnât interview that many ppl this year and were all getting accepted
These are the kids who get likely letters.
Edit: Sorry, let me clarify. A solid number of students who donât get interviews and get in do get likely letters RD. Not saying that students with interviews donât get them, but many non-interview admits get likely letters.
Not true, I know a likely letter recipient this year who did have an interview, and if you look through past threads there have been kids accepted on the RD date with no interview.
No, Likelies this year went out to URM and/or FGLI. thatâs wrong. Also underrep states. I do not know a single ORM who was full pay from a populated state who got a likely this year
The ppl who I know who didnât get interviews didnât get likelies and were normal applicants but still got in. Itâs rare but itâs possible
Thank you.
I do, but they were extremely qualified!
Likely letters are released after an early interview. Speaking from experience. And 10% of Yale acceptances are not interviewed.
experience as in? also how many of the interviewed candidates are accepted?
This may be useful.
Ah. My apologies, I take that back.
I guess half of these not interviewed are athletes ?
