I haven’t done it yet because I’m nervous lmao part of me wants to skip it because I’m so much better face to face. I always mess up pre-recordings. I’m still probably going to do it but I’m stressed lmao. I also got my tongue pierced week ago completely forgetting that that might be a factor so I was giving it time to heal or I was just gonna take it out lol.
I took the chance of doing it, but do not feel confident at all lol… I did practice, but once the recording started, my mind just blew away and couldn’t respond with enough confidence. After this interview, I felt like my chances decreased haha
Also, I saw a thread from last year and someone got the AO interview the day after the StandOut was submitted and later got in! Since I’m not hearing anything from the AO as of now, I feel like it’s a rejection lol (apparently rejection decisions come out around the same time as AO interview request)
I haven’t done it yet because I want to practice more and be ready. English is my second language so without being prepared this will be a disaster lol good luck everyone
Hey, DC98310!
I totally get that! But I’m sure you’re not the only one who feels this way. I work in Talent Acquisition, and I’ve seen how nervous virtual interviews can make people. I’d be happy to share some tips for pre-recorded interviews if you’d like—just let me know!
Either way, the fact that you’ve applied to Yale is an accomplishment on its own, and I think you’ll do just fine. Don’t forget to trust yourself!
Oh no! Sorry to hear that. I always like to say, what’s for you is for you, and no one can take that away.
To give you some peace of mind, Yale mentions that the StandOut interview is just one piece of your application, so I wouldn’t worry too much.
I feel that! What’s your native language if you don’t mind me asking.
I’m from Brazil! I have been studying English for almost 20 years now lol but I still struggle if I’m too nervous
Thank you so much!!! Will definitely be in touch haha. I feel good about it and I feel lucky for us all
To anyone who hasn’t done their StandOut Interview because of fear, this may help you:
I just completed mine, and it’s not that bad!
What helped me was this:
About an hour before I took it, I pulled out all my transcripts—from high school, college, and my Yale application. I took some time to go through everything and reflect on my journey, noting both the challenges I faced and the successes.
Secondly, what helped me the most was taking advantage of the practice interview. After each attempt, I reviewed my responses and took note of areas where I could improve. I made full use of the practice feature, going through it three times in total.
I won’t go into details about the questions, but as they mentioned in the email, it’s all about reflecting on past experiences—both academic and personal.
Good luck, everyone!
Thank you so much for this!!! Definitely go over the practice and read your application again guys! We got this
How are you re-reading your applications?
I primarily read my essays. They were a good reminder as to my why for applying. You should be able to view your application through the common app.
I had every essay question written on a google doc. That’s how I did initially did it, and then pasted on the common app. You can access your full application on the common app website too
Has anyone gotten an invite for the second interview yet?
I have not gotten an invite yet.
It’s still early, the last day to submit the standout recorded interview is like the 11th if I remember correctly.
Every time I see a notification on this thread my heart drops lol I’m so scared of seeing anyone here get an AO interview and know that I didn’t get one
It will all be okay! Still early. We got this!
Hey guys I went on reddit and saw about 3 ppl saying someone they know got the AO interviews. One of them said: “The two people I know applied EWSP. The email said AO interviews are happening April 9th to April 17th if that’s any help at all.” Just wanted to update everyone here and let you all know that supposedly AO interviews are going out
Thanks for sharing! Hopefully we receive an invitation within those timeframe. Did anyone receive the AO interview invitations yet? Or are we all in the same waiting game for those of you in this thread?
