If any of your kids get a cold or feel a cold coming on, tell them to go to JoJo’s on Chapel (next to the Study) - their hot honey lemon ginger tea is legendary.
Knowledgable parents: we’ve booked an AirB&B near Yale Bowl. How is the neighborhood?
This game, though!
WOOHOO! So exciting! Last time Yale won “The Game” my oldest was a freshman. My youngest was the first graduating class where Yale had never won against Harvard. Finally, long overdue!!!
That was sweet - and lots of freshmen. The next few Games may be much more fun than the last few.
We really need a New Haven dentist–we live in a small town and it’s really difficult to get appointments, plus they don’t take our insurance! Any locals with suggestions?
I would have your student ask his or her head of college or dean for a recommendation. Since they live in New Haven, they will almost certainly have a recommendation.
University Health may also have a referral list for dentists.
@Kelowna yes, her boyf brought her soup. She is doing a lot better now. She made it to the game and that conveniently helped with her recovery
AND ABOUT THAT GAME!!!
I was there for the end and the kids were just so ecstatic. It was so fun to be walking among them all. I think the Harvard kids were genuinely happy for Yale. What a day!
@Memmsmom I hope her bf wasn’t one of those Saybrugians in the front row…
Just booked a hotel for next year’s game - wow not early for that!! Heads up - many places sold out but there’s still some places left now
Anyone know if you add your Yale supplemental insurance cost to CSS or Fafsa for accounting of expenses?
@DeepBlue86 lol, no. He wasn’t at the game. She on the other hand had a front row view of the display. She was clothed however, as she is not in Saybrooke. We had a lot of fun with her and the turkey neck this morning. Ha Ha Ha…
I was sorry to see that Dean Hollloway is leaving for the provost’s job at Northwestern, but not too surprised - he seems like somebody who will end up as a university president within a few years.
I know this has been discussed before but it didn’t potentially apply to me before so the details didn’t stick. Over Thanksgiving break my son mentioned that the summer Russian trip to St. Petersburg would be nice. He has found himself with school work that is too demanding to keep a campus job this year. And the idea of him not working over the summer months seems so extravagant for a family like ours. Can you help me understand the resources that might make this possible? Or the lack of resources that might make it impossible?
@Community2605
Great question! This point occurred to me as well when I sat down to do preliminary filling out of FA forms. There is direct question about summer contribution from student.
After being home for a great week for Thanksgiving, my D woke up Sunday morning with a fever. Pumped her full of meds and put her on the train back to New Haven that afternoon. So hard to do. This morning, her fever was 100.3 and I tried to convince her to not go to class. But Monday and Wednesdays are the days when she has all her classes, so she refused to miss. I’m just venting. I know there is nothing we can do, or in reality she can do except keep meds in her. If her fever doesn’t break by tomorrow though, I’m going to push hard for a trip to Yale Health. She has successfully been there 5 semesters without a trip there but this may be the time to go.
@Tperry1982 My kid had the flu the last week before break. It was horrible because although she could get a Deans note for the projects and papers, she still had to take her exams or lose the chance to drop her worst grade. She too didn’t want to go to Yale health and I had to threaten her with messaging her friends to force her to go. Im so glad she did though because she tested positive for influenza and that allowed her to sleep through a few lectures and sections guilt free. Your daughter really should go. I know its hard as a mom though.
I know some people whose Yale student got pneumonia earlier this fall and has since recovered - they have had nothing but great things to say about Yale Health and the care their kid got, communication with the parents, etc.
I know Yale Health is great. I actually had to have minor surgery there back in the dark ages when I went. My kid has an aversion to doctors period. Today she only had one class that was over at 11:40. She skipped Korean tutoring and cancelled meetings and came back to the room to sleep and pump meds. Fever is down but I’m not sure if its artificially down because of meds. Monitoring situation and will push for Yale Health if needed. I knew you all would understand my pain. That’s why I love it here.
