CT limo (Connecticut Limo) has service to several airports, including Hartford. They have a web site that shows the schedule, and reservations are easy to make on the web site. I believe that they stop right at Phelps Gate (an entry to Old Campus).

It’s not really a limo, it’s a bus. Maybe it’s a limo when the number of passengers is smaller.

Prices will be on the web site. QMP used them all four years and never had a problem with them. (There was some difficulty during the big snowstorm last year, as I recall, but any company would have had problems with that.)

Yes, I second QuantMech, both my S’s used CT Limo and found it very convenient. It picks up/drops off right at Phelps Gate. They book right on the website where you get a Yale discount as well as a 5% discount for booking online.

For the most part, these discussions here at CC focus on the front end of the college experience – applying to colleges and getting started in them. But we have a Senior at Yale this year and I am struck by the pressure our Senior is experiencing about what to do next. Grad School is in the picture but not right away. At least one friend has landed a high-paying job and there is perhaps pressure to keep up.

I am concerned that the stress of so many things is greater now than it was for our child at the beginning of the college experience – the stress of a demanding academic agenda, of leaving such an idyllic college experience and of keeping up with the Joneses (an aura that seems to be part of our phone calls).

Do other parents of graduating seniors feel this and is there an even greater or perhaps unique pressure on those graduating from the “elite” schools? Peer pressure about landing a prestigious job and/or getting into a prestigious grad program and so on.

D is also a senior and many of her friends in IB have lined up high paying jobs w/ 2 yrs commitment. I believe these are standard in the industry.
I think she feels the stress of demanding academics as well as leaving Yale and her friends, but I don’t think there is a sense of keeping up with the Jones. Several of her friends have parents that are “well connected” who will make sure there is a “nice” job upon graduation.

I know of only one senior friend planning the law school route and one who briefly considered grad school. I get the feeling they are being told/advised to postpone grad school for a few years.

D had a wonderful internship this past summer with a promised job offer upon graduation – but nothing official or in writing.

My Daughter at Yale is a freshman but do have a senior D at Harvard and she is experiencing similar stress. She doesn’t want it all to end, and she doesn’t know if she should go to grad school now or work for a few years before going to Grad school. Unfortunately her Undergrad degree is one that will need a masters and even then she will never be “making the big bucks” so at least that is not one of her worries. But agree with the rest of you that this is a very stressful yet exciting time!

EAO…Can imagine the stress of deciding “now what” after college. Years ago the mantra was to get work experience before going back to grad school…
Don’t know what the advice is now…
I know of one JD who has gotten 2 specialty degrees in the last few years while the job market has been poor.
Know of a young lady in grad school for PT so she has time yet to worry about “now what”

Exciting time for them as they look ahead…whether the 2012s are looking for jobs or grad school options.

Are any of you Yale parents in New Haven this weekend?
We decided a while ago to go up a different weekend (2 weeks ago) and are patting ourselves on the back for our brilliant planning Beautiful weather and not a single snowflake. Though we are dealing with several inches here in the Mid-Atlantic today…

Wunderground…Tonight
Snow. Snow may be heavy at times. Total snow accumulation of 8 to 12 inches. Windy and cold with lows in the upper 20s. North winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. Chance of snow near 100 percent.

Ummm, yeah, it’s brutal, whipping winds, rain mixed with snow…the last time we were here hurricane Irene shut the East Coast down. I’m beginning to think we bring bad weather luck! At least the bar can’t get any lower, it’s only possible to go up from here! Not enough to make me regret coming, but it certainly leaves a lot to be desired! :)

It was a nice concert, Hunt. Lots of slushy snow on the ground. Kids were generally in good spirits. There was one student walking around on crutches with a big smile on his face! I guess the Yale students are tough.

It is no longer snowing, at least not much. And the external temp reading in the car said 35 degrees.

We drove up in bad snowy weather and it took twice as long as it normally does, but once we got here, it has been fun.

We actually took the 2 hour Yale architecture tour during the snowstorm–silly us! Yes, it was cold and slushy/ snowy here, but the concert(s) were great, had lots of fun, and today is a beautiful sunny day. Had brunch in the dining hall before we left for airport. As always, very glad we came!

So glad everyone had fun.
It is all about having the right attitude even if the sidewalks are slush!!
Plus - what’s not to like about being at Yale with our family.

I’ll be there . . . I suppose it’s the start of a new tradition. With one at H and one at Y, I’m not sure who I’ll be cheering for though, but it will great to see the kids.

I admit that I don’t want to read too much through this thread right now, but I was wondering if Yale was hit with power outages when the surprise storm hit? If so, how did they manage things for the students?

And regarding the game, I have to cheer for Yale, if for nothing else, because the QB gave up his opportunity for the Rhodes, so it must be an important and hopefully exciting game :-).
