interview invited?
Nothing here and C25 is getting nervous and upset about it…
Good luck all!
I note many people get accepted to Yale without an interview. In fact if you look at what they said about how they choose who to interview, an interview is a mixed signal at best. So obviously make the most of it if you get one, but don’t worry if you don’t.
not yet
My son just discovered today he got an email for an interview request that was sent 5 days ago. He thought it was a spam email. He responded yes to the interview today. Hopefully the interviewer will still want to interview him.
Also concern that they “need more information”. I guess it is better than an auto reject. Any thoughts? Wonder how many get interviews then get a yes. Been reading on here and it seems it’s most get rejected even with great interviews.
I note the basic truism is “most get rejected” until a few actually get accepted. Maybe not if you are hooked like a recruited athlete, or get a Likely Letter. But other than that, you are probably going to get rejected . . . until you aren’t!
So my two cents is this is just another opportunity to make your case. Nothing more, but also nothing less.
My child also applied to Yale and received an interview invitation on November 5th; MY DD completed the interview last weekend. I’ve done a lot of research and noticed that interviews in our area tend to happen earlier, similar to the last two years. I believe this is due to various factors, including the workload of the admissions team and the number of applicants.
Though it’s from last year, according to the Yale ASC, about 9,000 interviews were offered. Considering the total number of applicants, which was around 50,000, it seems that about 20% of students received interview invitations. There are cases where students are accepted without an interview, but generally, having an interview seems to increase little bit odds of acceptance, although it’s still a very low probability.
I hope your interview goes well. There are no specific questions; they vary by alumni, but just continue the conversation comfortably. Good luck.
Note for SCEA interviews, our reports were due today. I think most of us got our request to contact interviewees that first full week in Nov. The interviews are more spread out RD.
@4mymonkies, don’t know if your son’s interviewer used the template email, but in it part of the message is “it could be helpful to reflect on your important past experiences, current values/interests, and aspirations for your future”. Not every interviewer follows the AO’s instruction on what we are supposed to comment on, but reflecting on these topics won’t be a waste of time.
mine got in and attended without an interview. Good luck!!!
Good to know! I think 4-5 people at dd’s school applied SCEA and she’s pretty sure none of them have had interviews. I wonder if Yale thinks they know the school well (nyc private) and somehow that makes them less likely to give interviews?
I think coming from a known private is probably a factor in no interview. There is less time in SCEA to interview. My kid did SCEA as well and got in then. Good luck and take care of yourself as well. Went through it twice and it was stressful both times.
My kid got in SCEA without an interview and was an unhooked applicant. My other kid did not get an interview and did not get in. Deferred then a No. So two examples. The No ended up at another Ivy and is very happy there.
DS was just contacted on Friday (11/22) and is also a SCEA candidate. Interviewer told him that interview needs to be complete by 12/2. Perhaps timing differs depending on factors?
Son got a hold of interviewer and he just had surgery so will be out for a month. He suggested reaching out to admissions for another interviewer. He did and have not heard back. Since they wanted him to interview bc they “need more info”, I hope this doesn’t hurt his chances.
I have to think they will sort this through without disadvantaging your son. If they cannot find a local interviewer, they can find someone to do a Zoom interview. I usually do 1 or 2 outside my region a year.
Sounds like there may be 2 batches for SCEA this year. Good luck, your son just needs to treat it like a conversation. I think most interviewers want to find positives.
