Accepted. I can’t believe it!

Congratulations to those who were accepted. If you were not, I am well familiar with the stress but if you were good enough to apply you will land somewhere great. And for the ones deferred, the days of soft rejection seem to be long past. Keep up the good work, send strong grade updates. It may not go your way in the end, but I believe you are definitely still in the game.

Daughter was denied. So strange because her brother’s application last year wasn’t as strong as hers, in my uninformed opinion. She was also a Questbridge finalist though and he wasn’t. Did the QB app make a negative impact? So sad. Oh wonderful Yale, why? We would have so loved to have another kid there. :frowning:

Hi, no matter what’s the outcome, it is important to realize you have done nothing “wrong.” There are very few spaces available, some very qualified people get in; some don’t.

Take a deep breath or a short break. Then focus on the rest of your applications. Don’t give up and I wish you find some place where you’ll happily spend the next 4 years!

Take care,

D.

Hi, so sorry to hear about the disappointment. I would think QB finalists are much sought after. Focus on other schools the next few weeks. What matters is the child lands at a place he/she likes and have wonderful college years ahead, and it could be at a different school from the sibling’s. I hope it will all work out.

Best Wishes,

D.

So I was deferred. How should I go about writing my LOCI and where should I submit it?

My kid is at a school that usually admits multiple kids to Yale every year (low double digits).

Kid thinks that there were maybe 10 SCEA applications to Yale this year. Other than 2 athletes who had received likely letters, none of the other SCEA kids got in tonight. These kids are brilliant. Noone was rejected, all deferred.

I would guess that a few of these may get in during regular decision cycle but many won’t want to take that risk and will be using their ED2 somewhere else. Overall Yale acceptance rate at school is typically 20-25%.
This year is brutal.

Hi, I remember there was a post quoting a conversation with Mr. Dunn, from last year’s Yale Early admissions post (for Fall 2024 Admissions). You may want to take a look before submitting the LOCI.

D.

p.s. I didn’t make the post or know Mr. Dunn.

They will now apply to, and be accepted at, multiple Ivies. It will be another WL fest.

We are seeing the same in our area. I am assuming you are, like me, in a wealthy, highly educated area/BS. I think the pool of highly prepared FGLI is ultimately small, and elite schools committed to diversity schools are trying to guarantee them up front, while shifting kids that would have traditionally made it in to regular decision. We saw this with several highly qualified legacy students last year. They ultimately made it in.

Reading this as a deferred Princeton applicant. Is this—that highly qualified legacies are deferred and then admitted RD—equally applicable to schools like Princeton and Harvard where the deferral rates are significantly higher?

thank you.
