UC to UC are harder than CC to UC, but if you can’t transfer to another UC and you’re already in a UC it doesn’t matter. But if you’re in a CC and you screw up badly, you can’t transfer to a UC.

lol Andrew what??? You are easily swayed man

Well i got rejected even from “lower-tier” UCs, so i’ll still have more options by going to CC than i do now. Now i only have UCSC and CC as options right now. I shall take the risk. I would be fine transferring to other UCs even if it’s not LA or B. SD is pretty good too.

@Andrew69
You can retake the classes, but it’s difficult to retake classes due to the required amount of units required by the end of your 2 years. By having to retake a class, you will have to enroll in more classes per semester, which can make your workload overwhelming. One or two may be doable, but it definitely gets very tough the higher you go.

You can drop a class midway through, but it appears as a W on your transcript. Like I said in my last post, one or two aren’t a big deal although it starts to hurt your chances the higher you go.

@sphinx
when you aim high, you aim high. so you’re saying when you get rejected that’s it. there is no other alternative but to take what u got. cc’s provide the opportunity for a second chance. it’s a lot harder to transfer UC to UC than from a california community college to a UC. worst case scenario is you don’t transfer in 2 years. it’s not like if you get rejected in your first 2 years at a CC, you’re never going to attend a university. aim far, go far

Another reason why I will take advantage of summer courses. It will help get some classes out of the way.

yeah i want to aim high, i don’t want to not take the chance at getting into somewhere i love. I mean it doesn’t hurt to try. You will never know if you don’t try. I don’t want to be stuck somewhere i don’t want to be. After 2 years of CC i will have WAYYY more options than i do now.

monkey: same with me
(although I only applied to uci,ucla,ucsd -- I should have applied to UCR at least XD) I only have UCM, CSUF, and CC left and UCM is out and I just don’t see myself @ csuf.
WE SHALL TAKE THE LEAP OF FAITH TOGETHER!
lol I watched Inception too much >> but then the leap of faith goes bad in there… xD

UC to UC is not any more difficult than CC to UC transfers. On their website they state: “We give highest priority to students who are transferring from California community colleges or other University of California campuses.”

And the average GPA of a UC to UC transfer admit is actually lower than CC to UC at UCLA.

3.62 vs. 3.7

@monkey
exactly man. that’s a good attitude. get started now i swear it’ll make your cc life much more enjoyable

Now that’s awesomeeeeeee ;]

Hey guys, I noticed a lot of talk about CC life and academics. As a CC student about to transfer, I’d be happy to answer any questions!

@ryeman
No, I’m not saying that there are no other options. All I’m saying is that if you’re accepted to a UC school, you should take advantage of your opportunities and enroll rather than go to a CC in hopes of transferring in 2 years. There’s just too much uncertainty.

And as I said in my previous post, UC to UC is given same priority as CC to UC.

@lakerace
hey man, did u get into any places yet?

I only know the leap of faith from Assassins Creed lol XD
Inception was awesome.

I don’t think i’ll waver on my decision, unless some miracle happens, that being Cal or Davis accepting me.

@lakerace
ohh i didn’t know you were a CC student. how would you compare the workload of CC to high school? what if we end up getting lazy there like senioritis in high school lol. D:

Oooh lakerace, can you tell us about your CC/path to transfer experience? oooh & what UC are you transferring too? :)

Are ap classes in high school as hard as classes in community colleges?

@Sphinx123 I think only UCLA has that policy of giving equal priority to CCC transfers and those from UC’s.

And community colleges are not evil LOL! I went to a community college for a summer course and it was fun, interesting, and surprisingly difficult at the same time. It’s almost like taking an AP class but not as boring as sitting in lecture hell. At the CCC I went to, a lot of the students were super motivated, inspiring people. It really changed the stereotype I had in mind about community colleges, especially those in a mainly minority populated are. Good life experience. However, I do have to comment though, that there were a lot of 3rd year students there who have not transferred…and its insanely hard to get classes. CCC’s seem to be horribly impacted. If I were not at UCI, I could imagine myself at CCC, but I can’t imagine it being super easy. There’ll be specific challenges for both paths.

i view CC as an opportunity for another shot at at UC. would you rather go to merced or santa barbara? there is always that uncertainty, no matter where you go. and cc’s are generally easier than a university, and it’s not like the student is in high school anymore. they know the feeling of rejection, and they’ll do whatever it takes to avoid that feeling again. i’ve done it. i’m living proof that it works. i wasn’t the best high school student, but going into the CC with a real drive and motivation really whipped me up into shape. and now i’m UC bound.

and this is from the actual UC transfer page:
Who we accept

While we give California community college students first priority over other transfer applicants, we also accept those from four-year institutions. In addition, it’s possible to transfer from one UC campus to another.

so there is a priority for CC students.

I already got into UCSC (TAG) and UCR. Still waiting on UCI.

The classes in CC vary greatly, compared to HS, in terms of workload. Some classes will be a breeze, others will require a lot of effort.

The main difference, however, is that in CC you have to be more self-disciplined. In HS, teachers will contact you if you’re struggling, or if you start skipping classes, etc. In CC, (and any other university, for that matter), professors simply don’t give a s*** about how well you do, to put it bluntly.

In my opinion, this is why universities prefer transfer applicants over freshman applicants. Transfers have already proven that they can be responsible and can handle a college workload.
