On a recent trip to Notre Dame, the conversation of football came up, natch since there is a cult like following of the sport which makes it infectious. I think I caught the fever. So, discussing traveling in the fall to attend the home games, one of the parents casually mentions that they have a “football house.” They said, s"ome people have a beach house, we have a football house." That’s a new one on me and I just think that’s hilarious. Thought I’d share this funny. So do y’all have football houses too?! I feel left out!

^^^No, but we have season tickets to DH’s alma mater. We have to pay for the tickets, hotels, meals, etc. during the season. It’s pricey, but many of his college friends and families all have seats together, so it’s important to him. The actual games-everyone roots for the team, of course, but not in the same way as you will find in some football cultures.

Yes we have 100% have a football house. This is how fall breaks down for us…lol

Thursdays: Middle School Football Game
Friday: High School Football Game
Saturday Morning: Pop Warner Football Game (Daughter cheers but we would probably go anyway)
Saturday Afternoon: UT game if at home. If we travel to a game we only do so if it does not conflict with D’s cheer
Sunday: Pro-Ball. Sometimes a trip to Dallas, but mostly in front of the big screen.
Monday: Monday Night Football

We live in a community dominated by football. I hate to admit it but on more than one occasion I have hoped we didn’t continue in the playoffs because it was just too much.

^^^and to add…I have every stadium chair for every team, every blanket, every pom pom. There is an entire section devoted to it in our garage and an entire section in our closet devoted to “spirit” clothing…lol.

This is Texas.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the parents with the football house have it solely for the purpose of games. It lies vacant after that. They fly into Chicago Thursday night and leave Sunday!

@College, haha I bet! I’ve done that with club soccer too :0

I know someone who has a second home dedicated mainly for football. It is in Alabama, so they have a lot to cheer about, I suppose, and a large family utilizes it.

It might not be that much more expensive in some of these area to have a house for the year vs. the hotel rooms cost for 8 or 9 games a year and a few other events depending on how many people you are putting up.

I know the price of hotel rooms doubles and you have to book two nights in many college towns on football weekends.

It shows the extent that wealthy alumni will go to attend ND football. Nothing suprises me but I don’t think that it is very common. I know people who buy motor homes for the express purpose of tailgating. They are only used for home football games and a very expensive parking pass is bought. This is big time football.

Sax, I guess if you’re hardcore, a house for football is necessary then when you do the math. I guess we’ll be the ones enduring highway robbery, because I’m not buying a house in Indiana unless it’s to live there :)

Buying a house in St. Joe County is cheaper than renting rooms in S. Bend during football weekends and graduation week
Seriously, one can buy a decent house for $80,000-150,000. Hotels commit robbery during ND games and festivities.

Or…you can go with Lou Holtz’s quote ~“To those who understand, no explanation is necessary. For those who don’t, no explanation will suffice.”

Our household isn’t hardcore enough for a dedicated “football” house, but during the Fall & Winter, we schedule our social calendar around Sunday games and Monday & Thursday night Pro games too. In fact we don’t have Super Bowl parties anymore because we’d rather watch the game than socialize!

For some reason my H is not into college football as much as he is pro football. I can think of three separate occasions where we planned our family vacations around where we could see a pro game outside and have flown to see a Jacksonville, Miami and Tampa Bay game in nice winter weather! ;)

No…(I have a football STADIUM)–I live just 10 miles from the Rose Bowl

I’ve heard of wealthy boosters buying houses for college coaches in resort waterfront communities so they could fish, golf and pal around together off season time. Some of these big boosters are out of control.

We always fly a flag on game day ~ 4 different schools to chose from. Sometimes change flags during the day.

I know a couple of families with condos in Athens, GA so they can stay the weekend during home UGA games.

“Or…you can go with Lou Holtz’s quote ~‘To those who understand, no explanation is necessary. For those who don’t, no explanation will suffice.’” I like that quote, it says it all

I considered a “lacrosse house” at our son’s school. Too bad the kid didn’t go to Yale – our beach house could have doubled as the “lacrosse house”.
