YOUR Celebratory Trip!

I will be 60 next year and would like to take a celebratory trip. Don’t even know where to begin! So, I will pose the question to you (rather than ask you to plan my trip for me…):

If YOU took a trip to celebrate YOUR 60th birthday, where would you go?

One caveat: reasonable price restrictions. In other words, I’d be prepared to pay for what I get…not opposed to spending money on a trip that is reasonably priced. Not looking for either extreme–uber cheap or uber expensive.

I just returned from a European river cruise, celebrating my retirement. We pid ~13000 for the two of us, all inclusive.

Where is Pearl Jam touring?

Women’s surfing school in Baja. :wink:

Like this: Las Olas – Las Olas Surfing for Women;

Have really enjoyed Switzerland and Scandanavia.

The best trip is upcoming-- as it will be a family trip. Its a bit of a funny circumstance so I hesitate to share it, but suffice it to say it will be with family and it will be special.

The trip is all planned. Turn 60 in Chiang Mai, Thailand while visiting a dear friend, fly to Bangkok that day, two hour massage and tea at nice hotel.

DEFINITELY BORA BORA, FRENCH POLYNESIA.

“DEFINITELY BORA BORA, FRENCH POLYNESIA”

That sounds very definitive, @thegrant. Tell us why. I haven’t even thought about a retirement trip, but I want something to look forward to.

Bora Bora is amazing. We went there for spring break three years ago. You kind of can’t believe you’re there the whole dang time :slight_smile:

My dream vacation is a month in Venice when my H retires. I love Venice. For our 20th we went to Anguilla. That was fabulous, too.

@busdriver11‌ Its so beautiful there

Gee, never even thought of doing something like that last year. Too late now. Perhaps having moved to our OOS retirement home the year before was enough excitement. Maybe when I’m 65…

Yeah I might go to bora bora for my 60th.
My sister had a friend from Tahiti and she used to live on a beach. She was reasonably wealthy, I think her family owns the supermarket chain there.

I’m thinking my celebratory trip might be a big one. The day I turn 60, I can also retire, with no cut in pension. So the trip could double as an age 60 and celebration of retirement trip too. Though I’d love to be in a position to retire earlier.

I’ve been watching some British series which has inspired me to look into renting a cottage on the coast in Northumberland.

What do you like doing in your free time? Working out? I’d go to a spa for a week. Museum hopping? Go to a place that celebrates art (or architecture) and see every museum. Nature person? Switzerland our national parks…
shopping maven? New York, Milan…a foodie? Go to Tuscany for a weeklong (or less) cooking lessons. We gave our kids (with their ok) a cruise. Not exotic, but fun.

I turned 60 this year: didn’t do anything for me (yet) I helped to make our son’s wedding, which was in and of itself a wonderful gift. But I think that we are going to go somewhere because Mr. Ellebud and I have been married for 35 years.

I’ll be 50 on my next birthday and I am not planning a celebratory trip. But if I were, I’d go to either Turkey or India, simply because they are highest on my where-to-go-next list.

(But that’s assuming I could persuade my preferred traveling companions to join me and that we could all get away at the same time. So far it hasn’t happened for India or Turkey.)

I have always wanted to go on an Earthwatch trip.

http://earthwatch.org/

Maybe Archaeology of the Mongolian Steppe… or Amazon Riverboat Exploration… or South African Penguins…

I went to Capetown, Rwanda and Brussels. Best trip ever! DD was in the peace corps, and the trip was planned around a trip to see her. 8 days in Capetown, 8 days in Rwanda, 3 days in Brussels, and five days of flying!

Very well worth the $12,000 or so we spent. We stayed with a friend on Capetown, so no lodging costs there.

I turned 60 and D1 turned 30, and our trip was to London, because we both love art and theater. A museum every day, a show or opera every night, great dinners and nearly $300 worth of tea to bring home. Time together–priceless!

Anywhere in Ireland.
