Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

We’ll be there Sunday too (evening)!!!

H got a pair of straight leg jeans at Banana Republic for $12.97, regularly $78. Their in store clearance right now is great (especially for men)

Sorry so late, but my sister just told me about this: Today is the last day to buy online at Kohl’s and get it delivered in time for Christmas. You can get 30% off with the code My30off, and shipping is free if you spend over $75. If not, put in the code MVC4816 and you’ll get free shipping.

I just bought my son a $45 combination toaster oven and toaster by Hamilton Beach for $21 with free shipping (it was on sale.)

Post-Christmas sales galore! Yesterday I got two dresses, two tops and a pair of pants for the price of one of the dresses at the Cache - 50% off any already clearance-priced item. One of the dresses is the CC blue and was made in the USA!

D got a hooded Northface Denali jacket at 30% off at the REI.

The mall was a zoo despite the horrible road and parking lot conditions (piles of snow and slush).

Christmas exchange tip…My brother gave us a Brita water filtration pitcher and filters for Christmas. Our water here is good and we felt we wouldn’t use it. S1 really needed a blender (military guy, works out constantly, drinks protein shakes daily) so I decided to return the water thing to Target and get a blender for S1 in exchange.

When I got in line, the sign said “must have receipt or gift receipt or be able to produce credit card used for purchase so purchase can be traced”. Of course I had none of that but decided to try to exchange anyway.

So here is the tip…customer service girl was very helpful and told me that Target has a policy of letting customers return two purchases per year without a receipt if you show them your driver’s license and the return is less than $30.
She checked my license and said I had already made one return that way in 2008 (didn’t even remember…I shop at Target way too much) so I was only eligible for the store credit for one of the items. Then she asked if anyone had come shopping with me that day. I said DH (pointing to him… waiting oh so patiently). She then told me she could do the other return using DH’s driver’s license which she did and even put the amt. of both returns on the same gift card which I promptly spent on a “super ice crusher blender” for S1, who was very pleased. It was a good shopping day…able to exchange something I didn’t want for something S1 really needed.

Moral of the return…don’t be put off by signs saying receipt required…there may be exceptions.

I like to give my kid’s teachers holiday gifts (even in high school). Son has 7 teachers. I bought myself a new Entertainment book online, onsale for $25 each (used to sell for $35) and they had a promo this year that subsequent books were 15$ each! I bought each teacher an Entertainment book for the holidays. Who dosen’t like a gift that will save them money during such a tough economic year?

Went out with oldest D yesterday. The mall was pretty slow for the Sat after Christmas. Macy’s didn’t seem to have much on sale. But PacSun had everything at least 50% off and some items 70. They were crowded. Also the Ripcurl store had 25-30 % off all items. D got several items. I found a pair of Rainbow sandals with crystal decorations for 50% off.

My wife picked up a pair of comforters yesterday and was very happy with the price. She didn’t like the price of the covers though so she will make her own (which she usually does). The mall was pretty busy yesterday evening.

Our local malls and electronic stores were mobbed (I generally stayed away). It appears to me that many are shopping. I have no idea as to whether or not people are buying anything.

Did a tiny bit of shopping with D on Friday. Hadn’t checked out the closing yet, so popped into Linens n Things. Needed to replace some hand towels & wash cloths and didn’t really care about colors. Bought 5 very nice plain, solid-colored hand towels and 4 cloths, along with a cute set of 4 different shaped shot glasses, for under $15.

Scored big the day after Christmas. Went with a bag of donations to Salvation Army. They were having a half off sale. Got a china closet for the dining room–a huge one, and a bookcase/desk/drawer unit for a little over $200. I then picked up a dozen hard cover books for $1.99 apiece, some men’s pajama bottoms, a dozen turtle necks for me for about $2 apiece, some turtle necks for MIL, some dress shirts, some very nice ties and some sundries and knickknacks for less than $100. I paid for delivery of the furniture ($40) and got away with about $300. I’ve been looking for the right china closet for years now.

seiclan, great idea!

Went to an outlet mall out of town yesterday and found some great buys at an Eddie Bauer outlet!
EB Raincoat originally $68 for $20.
EB Cotton Cashmere sweater $19.99
EB Skirt $9.99

and, my favorite buy…
A very classic pewter EB watch originally $78 for $24!!! 70% off - I love it!!!

This is really scary: Macy’s is clearing out their fall and winter clothes, and they are literally giving the stuff away. The ladies’ departments have been cleaned up pretty well during the post-Christmas sales, but the men’s section of our downtown store was full of bargains. H is now set for another year with 6 nice polo and dress shirts at $5 each and some Calvin Klein fleece at $15-20. So if anyone is looking for casual clothes as well as shirts and ties for their getntlemen, Macy’s is the place to be this Saturday!

Thanks for the head’s up, I am heading to our local Macy’s today to check it out (armed with my reward’s certificate!).

Our Bath and Body Works is finally having its FINAL days of clearance - today we picked up a bunch of stuff 75-90% off. Large bottles of lotion for under $2, body wash for .75!!! Apparently they are introducing a new updated lines of products (new labeling and stuff?) next week so they are also clearing out the old line at reduced prices.

They had bins and bins of the small size shampoo, lotion, body splash for $1.

Lindeman’s Chardonnay - $4.99

Found out that when I order from Lands End by going in person to Sears they do not charge shipping and handling fees. They still ship the items to your home. It also allows one to compare pricing at Sear’s Lands End Dept. and Lands End’s mail order catalog.

One roll of Hallmark wrapping paper – .37

Wow, wish I’d read this thread earlier! Maybe can hit B&B (good for gifts) & Macy’s.

Thanks!

The local grocery chain has been complicated promotions like buy twenty dollars worth of coke products and/or pizza, get five dollars off at checkout. Buy three boxes of crackers, get (6 or 8 oz) chunk or shred cheese free.

Check your receipt before you drive home. The posted signs are not always reflected correctly in the check out data base.
